CHP runs about 95% radar, 5% laser. The ones sitting on the side of the road in a pack were probably the chase cars for a laser shooter that was hiding somewhere. Either the laser shooter didn't shoot you, or he shot you and your V1 missed the shot, but your speed was not high enough to warrant a ticket.

Most CHP cruisers don't run around broadcasting radar. A RD cannot detect radar that isn't there. If the CHP cruiser has its radar off, there is nothing to detect. RDs are not cop detectors. If your V1 didn't go off, then the CHP had his radar off. You can't blame the V1 for not detecting something that isn't there. Be patient. You'll figure it out.

That being said, I personally think the 9500ix is a better choice for the Bay Area, where there is no X and and very little K band, so lockouts are very safe. Also, the TSR feature will come in very handy in the bay area, where the traffic drones could drive someone crazy.

No need for K-band on the freeway (occasional Sheriff car in some areas may use them) so if he turns off K-band,he'll be just fine.

Some people like the arrows and counter on the V1, let's not turn this into a grudge match, he has a V1, he just needs some pointers and like you said, patience.

my settings are stock settings as i purchased this brand new. but i did check and laser was on. im assuming they were using laser, pacing or just waiting for someone to fly down the freeway (without radar )

    Remember:

Laser is almost always instant on, some guns can be setup for constant on.

With that said, the following are possible:

    1. They did not target you.

    2. The V1 may have not picked it up, always a slight chance.

If you're on the factory settings, you can disable X-band and POP, that will cut out most of the interferences.

X2 to all of this. Most CHP I see don't have their radars on when I see them. They still use pacing quite a bit too (my last CHP ticket was pacing).

I have posted several videos of running K band on the Cali freeways. It is not safe to turn K band off.

He has both a 9500ix and two V1s(one new and one that arrived busted). I think the V1 is a poor choice for his area. I think that's a valid opinion.

Just last night was my 2nd time seeing a Sheriff car K-Band alert. He was standing out in front of his cruiser I noticed as I was approaching. I could see him in his headlights standing there looking down. Once I came up from behind, I saw he was talking to a homeless looking fella that was camped right on the shoulder of the road - lol.
Anyway - that was my 2nd Sheriff K-Band.

Watch yourself, Nevada uses legit POP mode radar so have it turned on while there.

CHP uses roving Lidar units. They're composed of the officer with the gun and a bunch of chase vehicles down the road. These guys hit an area for several days and then move on to a completely different location.

Additionally ALL CHP vehicles including the pickups, SUVs, White "unmarked" cruisers, standard patrol units and motorcycles run Ka band units. All are capable of front and rear detection as well as instant on.

So....if you passed a CHP vehicle beside the road and didn't get an alert, he was operating in instant on mode, or his unit was turned off. He absolutely does have a unit in/on the vehicle. Trust me!
