Anybody who lives in NYS or travels along the thruway often enough, if you don't think LIDAR is a HUGE issue, you may wanna change your tune. Today I had the liberty (yeah ha) of traveling from Utica to Rochester, back to Utica, then to Syracuse, then on to Albany, and back to Utica by way of Amsterdam. I encountered 7 speed traps along the way. Of the 7, only 2 alerted me by way of my radar detector. The other 5 traps, I got to see the trooper in the median with his windows down, shooting LIDAR at oncoming traffic. And guess what? My radar detector never alerted laser once. Now bear in mind i don't rely on my radar detector to protect me from LIDAR, and this is a perfect example of why you shouldn't.
On a sidenote, the last trap I encountered was just west of Herkimer, and there was a trooper sitting in the median running C/O Ka... in the middle of a blizzard where people are travelling 20 - 30 UNDER the PSL because of visibility. He was def. trying to be stealthy since we was sitting with his lights off facing east/west so he could chase down people running both east or west. Gotta love the state of NY where even in a blizzard they're "collecting taxes".
