I have been riding for a 'fair amount of time' (with an RD)... and I prefer the Escort products over anything on them. Case closed. I would not trust a TPX system to protect me on my bike.

I am backing DJ on this 100%.

The key here is: We are telling you what we trust to protect us as hobbyists.

The people you buy everything from (cycleg...) are going to tell you what they must, in order to sell you something as store owners.

I am not saying they are just going to try to slime-ball you into ordering whatever they can: they may be genuinely interested in providing the best equipment for specific customers... In the end though, we have no stake in whatever you buy... it has no impact what-so-ever on us! BUT they (in some slight way) always have a stake in your money... it is a business: they have to be concerned with your money.

    Your choice.

PS: Off-topic... Alpine: Sorry I could not attend the invitational this year (Please tell NMA I thank him for his PM's) and sorry I did not get back to him before the event to let you guys know. I am just extremely busy during the school-semester and there is virtually no way I can swing it to get out there and back. I would love too attend one if it was held earlier in the year (summer for example). Also the weather would be much nicer for me. Thanks.

(To the original poster... sorry for going off topic, but Alpine posting just reminded me).

    Thanks for all the comments.

Well, I went to the show today after work and Cycle Gadgets wasn't there. But the TPX guys were. Actually a guy and a chick. I talked to the guy, forgot his name, a young looking guy, very friendly, apparently one of the founders. I asked him a bunch of questions and were happy with what he had to say about his product. I asked him straight up how's the performance compared to V1 or Escort, and he straight up said that if that if detection range is the only thing that you are concerned with, V1 or Escort probably have an edge on the TPX. But, looking at the overall usefulness on a bike, he believes his product is the best, and I don't blame him for being confident with his product.

He put it this way: if you were shopping for a new bike, you wouldn't want to base the purchase decision strictly on the engine's performance. You also want to check out the brakes, handling, ergonomics, appearance, and kick the tires and checkout other things first. You'd look at the overall package. Now apply that to a radar detector for a bike. Yeah, V1 or Escort might have better range, but looking at the overall package, he thinks that the TPX is better than the others. I agree with him. There was also a fella there that chimed in about how he's had one since this summer and really liked it and how it had saved him a few times on the 15 and 395.

To make an already long story a bit shorter, I then went over to one of the dealers at the show that sells the TPX and got one there. Then I come home to read all your posts. But no buyer's remorse yet. I'm actually excited about trying it out. I'm going to install it tomorrow and next week I'll be taking a ride to San Jose and it'll be the perfect trip to see if it does what it supposed to, or if I'll be returning it and get a V1 or Escort instead.

    Will keep you posted...

    Hope you enjoy it.

But performance is far from what escort also offers you. As far as his analogy the escort 9500ix is a much better choice. You have customer service that is by far the best I've seen by any company in this market. Tpx I'm not sure about but I doubt their as good as escort. You have the ability to update the detector via from home instead of sending it in for any updates or software changes or in your case maybe no updates at all, red light and speed camera detection, reliability, locks out the falses, gps capabilities which will help for future inventions and more, and much much more. Honestly if I'm telling the truth I think you made the wrong decision but that is most definatly up to you (no offense intended).

Point in view, I honestly think that their is not one thing that txs brings that is better than escort & the 9500ix except it's built for a more custom install and that's the honest to god truth

^ X2 to YTCD except on escorts CS, that is well known that Belscorts CS is definetly in the lacking dept. Other than that I agree 100 percent. Personally Whistler has some of the best CS i've ever delt with, next to blinder. As for V1 well let's just say i've actually even been cussed at on the phone which isn't very professional? I can't say that about belscort, but then again they have been so picky at times not even willing to send me a new speaker so i can solder it back on myself. They'd rather have me spend 80 bucks to have them do something that simplex. Which is garbage. Also when I had a friend buy a 9500ix from another person 2nd hand, and got it for 175 bucks instead of 500 it upset them that much that they refused to even retune it. Even if he paid the out of warrenty of 80 dollars. Which is rediculous, not to mention childish and greedy if you ask me. That and they've even told users that they don't beleive they have problems such as overheating with 9500ci's when they actually do. Crazyvolvorob knows all about this first hand. Also they claim they offer updates and support yet where is such support for the GX-65 and the 9500i that they claimed would be there? IDK just my .02 on belscort and VR's CS i've heard my fair share of horror stories so beware of that. Plus i've had my own experiences. Sent in a Bel STi Driver, the retuned it lasted a month, fell out of tune now for the second time yet they want me to pay to send it in to them, and for them to retune it? Garbage if you ask me.

Especially when I hardly even use my Bel STi compared to my X-50 because I try to save it for when I truely need the stealth going through Canada. As for every thing else YTCD said X2 i totally agree, and I also agree with DJrams statment .

I have used various ways to do it honestly.
Currently (This past season) It depended:

With my dad (he has his own X50/H.A.R.D. system on his bike): I just watch for his brake-lights... and I would have the V895 (with nothing but it on full-volume... since it didn't matter much) I could still hear the V895, as long as I was below ~75 I would say.

When I am by myself: I use headphones... BUT: I DO NOT put them in my ears. My helmet has a Velcro-piece right across the front of it (for a neck-gaurd on a bike to protect you from cold wind)... its the 'fluffy side' of Velcro (if you will). So I took some Velcro (the 'rough side') and mounted it on the back of each earphone. Now when I hop onto the bike, it takes all of 10seconds to set-up (I just put my helmet on, get on the bike grab the ear-phones, stick them together via the Velcro... and viola).

TO answer any questions people have: Yes it is loud enough at high-speed to hear... its extremely loud in the helmet (I even wear earplugs on long trips). The Velcro bond will rip off in the case of an accident... so I don't rip the RD off and so I don't have a cord there to choke me. I have never had any problems with LEO's, and I have never had any problem with them falling off or the like.

Again, thats what I am using right now... over the past 5 years I don't even know all the things I used (I even had my first whistler on my bike... before I got into this as a hobby).

To be honest now: I am starting to slow down a lot on my bike, so sometimes I won't even bring one, because I will ride so casual (We are talking out on desolate back roads at 3AM I cruise @10-20MPH to star gaze), that the RD is more of a distraction then a benefit.
