    AFineRide,

Do you use headphones while riding, or do you just keep an eye/ear on the RD while riding?
another thing to realize , you got to hear it at speed wearing ear plugs. I use a small tank bag and mount mine on top. I run the sti driver, and mainly I deal with ka and kband. This entails a wire to my ear.

I'm thinking of going to a light in the eye, but I like the vocals, but cord wiring is touchy to get functional , as wiring can catch on stuff in high wind conditions.

Put a female socket down low, near the front of your seat or the rear edge of your tank, and then run the cord from your 'phones down inside your jacket. That leaves very little to whip in the wind.

Thats a good idea, I just havent looked into an addtional cord run , I run a 3.5mm standard jack wire ear plug. I also fasten with velcro to the helmet once I have it on.

I use to have a radio in one ear and rd in the other, 2 wires. But I now run the radio out of my pocket kinda like what you mention , cause 2 wires coming from the tank bag area was double trouble.

Just to clarify the setup a bit, I have a Belkin RockStar passive (no power needed) audio mixer which accepts signal from my GPS and V1, and optionally an iPod. So the patch cords for that are all hidden under bodywork and out of the way.

The output of the mixer goes to a female 3.5 mm socket which emerges from the bodywork right about where my left leg fits on the seat. So from there the standard cord on my Etymotic ER6i noise suppressing earbuds reaches easily, having been routed under my jacket and out at my waist.

There's only about three or four inches of cord exposed and it is not really in the wind as it is way down low.

Other than having to use a ground loop isolator to keep noise out of the system, it was an easy install and gives me GPS voice directions and V1 audio alerts at reasonable volumes, plus attenuates road and wind noise a whole bunch. And it's way cheaper than BT and in some respects more reliable.

legalspeeding dot com sells some nice mounts for RD's. +1 to what others said, mount it in the optimal location, and remove it when you get off.

I personally have the windshield mount from them.

I also run a radarscreamer which works really well.

Does a tinted windscreen interfere with the operation of the radar detector?

I can't back this up with much evidence beyond stating I have used my RD with both my clear and dark smoke plastic and I have not seen any noticeable differences.

I believe most the tint arguments involve windows tints that use certain metals, my dark smoke windscreen is simply a more opaque plastic (at least to the best of my knowledge)

Good to know, thanks for the information.

The windscreen mount from the site you listed above, does that require drilling into the windscreen?

The pictures they show is the old version, it does, but they do not sell that anymore. The new version uses heavy duty 3M double sided adhesive. I've had mine on for probably a good year now and the adhesive isn't going anywhere. The screws on the other hand that hold the mounts to the actual peice that hold the radar did start to back out and I lost one, but that is easily replaced with a trip to the hardware store. The lowest strength loctite probably wouldn't be a bad idea on the screws, just to prevent them from backing out under heavy vibration. All around good product IMO though, the radar does not budge from within the mount, even under heavy vibration and head shake from my R6 and at high speed, not a problem.

    @ Pyro,

Thanks very much. I woulda bought an AWM from them ages ago if it did not require drilling plexi.

And I love the idea of also mounting my toll pass above the RD where it may actually get read (as opposed to in my pocket which has caused some embarrassing incidents).
