Actually, you guys in Florida will make out big time if they ban detectors. The cops will start using more constant on and with the penalty being a weak secondary offense, you got nothing to worry about. Here in Virginia we benefit every day from lots of constant on and some sloppy non-selective instant-on. If Florida bans detectors, most of the LEO's there will eventually end up like most of the LEO's in VA - they will become lazy with the radar. aka just turning it on and driving around or setting up to monitor with constant on. It's great using a detector in a banned area. Here in Virginia, there are only a few rare LEO's like thestampcollector that could nail your a$$ while using a detector.
    Good point sJ.
Your post actually changed my outlook on the whole thing from negative to positive. Gotta love constant-on, especially here where almost all roads are straight and flat.

(NSC) approves the proposed legislation citing a ban on radar detectors.

The National Safety Commission (NSC) approves the proposed legislation citing a ban on radar detectors. The proposal would protect the public by lessening the dangers of speeding off utilizing radar detection devices.

The legislation is sponsored by Senator Steve Oelrich of Gainesville. It mentions using a radar detector a secondary traffic infraction which means a motorist could be ticketed if he or she were pulled over for another offense and found to be using a radar detector. They do make radar detectors sound detestable.

"This bill is a positive step to protect Florida families on roads and highways from speeding drivers," said Ken Underwood, president of the National Safety Commission. I guess the NSC will be providing auto safety courses to buyers and auto dealerships in every state and more than 15 countries. They stated that these radar detectors give road users false security assumptions by speeding off as much as they want.

Truth be told, excessive car velocity contributes to higher vehicle accidents and crashes. To decrease the risk caused by incessant speeding, the use of radar detectors are prohibited. "I applaud Sen. Oelrich for this common-sense legislation that will prevent crashes and save lives," Underwood said. "After more than a decade of experience as Sheriff of Alachua County, he continues to show that public highway safety is a priority with this legislation."

Well, if you can’t do without a radar detector, might as well switch to your trusty headlights and tail lights for more legal road raging.

Someone on a another fourm made a good point. They said the study that the officer refered to did not say how many accidents occured because of people speeding with radar detectors. Rather the study only showed speed related accidents. Which has nothing to do with radar detectors besides speculation!

Yeah, and to take it a bit further, it's probably a good bet that a lot of he "speed related accidents" also involved alcohol.

I'll bet that most of those folks who were using alcohol, and speeding, also had MILK in their refridgerator at home. BAN MILK BEFORE MORE LIVES ARE LOST!

I see things differently...... The way I see it is this:

You are crusing and a police officer notices the radar detector, "he finds" a reason to pull you over and "Oh, well you have radar detector and here's your ticket, have a nice day"

Just more ways to bring more money into the system...This sucks and I just got a 995 for Christmas!!!

LEO would still need to write you a ticket for something else, otherwise the RD ticket won't hold up. Same with Seatbelt, Helmet, insurance, etc.

Running the X50 in all dark mode will basically render the tech display useless, which I use to identify the Ka falses when I get them Oh well...then again lately, I haven't encountered any Ka falses

I'll bet V1 will see a spike in concealed display sales from Florida buyers if this bill gets passed.
