AUSTIN, MN -- The Austin Police Department is geting a new weapon.
And its target? You, if you speed.
For their hard work during the state-wide Safe and Sober campaign last December, the Minnesota Department of Public safety is awarding Austin's finest with a Stalker radar gun.
It's worth about 3-thousand dollars and only six out of 340 police departments across the state were given the award.
One traffic safety coordinater says one out of every ten people in Minnesota have been charged with a DWI, and the Austin PD did an excellent job in trying to reduce that number.
Jean Ryan with the Office Of Traffic Safety says "they got out the message to the citizens of Mower County and said hey if you're out there in December we're going to be out there in full force taking impaired drivers off the road."
Ryan added that drivers over the legal limit are 10-times less likely to wear their seat belt.
