Ohio: Pedestrian Child Crashes into Ferrari
A ten-year-old pedestrian boy rammed a parked, classic Ferrari worth $1.5 million in Newport, Ohio last Monday. Arthur James Ibold, 51, had left his all-original, mint-condition 1971 Ferrari Daytona at East Ninth and Washington streets. At around 5:15pm, a fourth-grader running from another youth crashed headlong into the car, scratching and denting the hood. The hood is valued at $200,000. "He didn't know the car was worth $1.5 million -- he's ten," the boy's mother, who is unemployed, told the Kentucky Post newspaper. The child faces first-degree criminal mischief charges, a felony, in Campbell County juvenile court.

I want to hear some opinions on this one. Not every kid knows what a Ferrari is.

I can't imagine why he's got 1st degree criminal mischief charges if he was just bieng chased by another kid. This sounds like just one of those things. Like getting hit by a falling coconut or something.

I would think to get any money, the guy would have to file a civil suit against the kids parents. And I doubt that would get too far.

This brings up another point: Obviously the other kid precipitated the course of events, and it really is that kid's parents who should be held responsible for the consequences of their child's actions who likely was either threatening or intimidating the other child! This could so easily be argued in court and why the heck not, considering how blown out of proportion the situation already is.

I don't agree. It's just one of those things. Like your car getting hit by a meteor. Kids chase other kids, it's just natural. The odds of your kid getting chased or chasing another kid into a 1.5 million dollar car is astronomical, statistically impossible, so you can't really place anyone responsible. It's a fluke circumstance. Sucks for the guy with the Daytona but at least he wasn't parked at a seaside Hotel in Sri Lanka on December 26, 2004.

All I want to know is...where is the parent? As the parent..she/he should know where the kid was. Danged straight if I saw a Ferrari I would be pulling my flailing dumb kid away from it.
