They're back - again.
Starting Monday for 30 days, the state troopers who slowed traffic earlier this year - and issued about 3,500 tickets - are returning to Greater Cleveland.
Troopers will target Interstates 480 and 90 in an attempt to reduce traffic fatalities. Fatal and injury accidents decreased 21 percent during the earlier stints, the patrol said.
The patrol targeted stretches of interstates in Cleveland, Brooklyn, Euclid, Garfield Heights, Maple Heights and Warrensville Heights for five weeks between April 29 and June 1 and issued nearly 3,000 tickets.
They then returned in July for two weeks, issuing 586 tickets and arresting 14 drunken drivers.
Cuyahoga County led the state last year with 68 roadway deaths. More than 14,000 accidents occurred in Cuyahoga County over the last four years, the patrol said.
Traffic fatalities have increased about 10 percent this year in urban areas and dropped 6 percent in rural areas compared to 2006.
