Default Lidar to be used to detect windshear at airports

I recently became aware of the use of Lidar as a tool for detecting wind shear at airports. I know that the Denver International Airport -DIA maybe a test sight in the future. It will be use at the Hong Kong airport.

I hope it's ok to post a link to an article at another sight.

If more information is desired, Google Lidar and Windshear.

Yep, that is why many people get laser alerts when they are near an airport.

I had the "airport upgrade" done to my V1 in 1999. Really cut down on the laser false alarms from the EAFB. No idea what it consists of, but it worked.

My V995 and Bel Express 795 both light up a laser alert when I cross either end of the runways at Phoenix Sky Harbor.

You guys are most likely getting alerts from the Runway Visual Range (RVR) equipment at larger airports. Sometimes the horizontal visibility sensor of an automated weather station at smaller airports may also use an IR system, but they're usually fairly self-contained and shouldn't set off a laser detector.
