Most of the folks that come to Bikeweek are nice and ride safely, however given the large number of folks in attendance, the number of idiotic bike riders is about 20 times more than normal, and when they get into a pack, stupidity and showing off can run unchecked.

The local PD has had a vehicle parked with no one in it, across the street from my house 1 day, and a little bit north or south of me the other days, and I appreciate that it's caused folks to slow down.

As far as the DNA goes, folks can refuse, and some do, but many folks won't. There was a local checkpoint in the next town over, and the paper ran articles on it before and after.

Why the PSL is so low on the HWY1 (or Ocean Rd, the one that runs N-S right by the Atlantic) thru Daytona, I think it's 30 or not higher than 40, last time I was there the local PD in SUVs was doing radar (I think they got the Ka radar units) hidden in the hotel driveways...

A1A runs right by the beach in many areas, and there's so many pedestrians crossing the road to and from the beach and hotels, and also there's plenty of old folks and also out of towners who don't quite know where they are going. 30 or 35 MPH PSL in the urban areas of A1A are about right IMHO.

Folks getting hit by cars isn't going to help tourism, and that's the main source of money in this area's economy.

The locals all know to slow down over on the beachside, and to take alternatives to A1A. 8)
