BOISE - Someone in the Treasure Valley really doesn't want to get a speeding ticket.

Boise Police are hoping for the return of a $3,000 traffic radar gun that was apparently taken from a patrol motorcycle over the weekend.

The radar gun was taken from an older patrol motorcycle that an officer was using temporarily in the area around BSU after Saturday's football game. Newer police motorcycles have a locking holster where radar guns are kept. This older motorcycle did not have the locking holster.

The radar gun was taken, Saturday, Sept. 13th. The officer noticed the radar gun missing from the motorcycle at about 8:30 p.m.

It was on the bike at 6 p.m. During that time, the officer made several stops and contacts, and was away from the motorcycle briefly in several different locations in the neighborhood just south of Boise State University.

The radar gun is actually a laser device and is useless without corresponding equipment. The radar has the brand name "Ultra Lyte LR B" imprinted on the side, and a small tag that says "Property of Boise Police Dept."

Anyone with any information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS. Information leading to an arrest and conviction may be worth a reward of up to $1,000.

Nice they offer $1000 but the gun is worth much more.

I bet he didn't push it all the way into the holster and it fell out when he took off. My local LEO friend told me that happened to one of their Stalker SDR handhleds. The officer used it and then shoved it into the holster on the bike, but took off so fast that it flew out. Someone found it and turned it back into the PD.

Why doesn't the author just fckin refer to it as a laser gun?

And, I love the part that it is is useless without "corresponding equipment." Wrong. It works just great on its own--the only other equipment you'll need is a couple of 'C' batteries once in a while.

They probably mentioned the "corresponding equipment" part of it as a desperate attempt to fool the person into thinking it wont work and return it.

Well they are partially right, you do need the battery charger, unless you have the corded version.

They may, but if you do, don't say a word, and whatever you do don't sell it!

Hope whomever got tickets that day knows about this.. they can challenge the equipment since it wasn't certified at the end of the day and is not available anymore to withstand a challenge. :P
