The Coweta County Board of Commissioners approved an expanded fiscal year 2009 budget Tuesday.
The board voted on the budget at a special called meeting held Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Commissioner Randolph Collins recused himself because of items dealing with the court system.
The budget, as presented Tuesday, contains several expenditures that were not included last week.
The Coweta County Sheriff's Office's budget will get an additional $5,990 for two Pro Laser III Radar units. Sheriff Mike Yeager had requested a total of five units. County staff had initially recommended three.
The new budget contains the $20,000 per year the cities of Senoia and Grantville will be contributing to the library system for the operation of their respective libraries. That item is contingent upon agreements between the cities and the library board.
There will be an addition of $6,000 to the Senoia operating budget for rent, $37,700 to the library system budget for the pension match, and $20,000 to the A. Mitchell Powell Jr. Library for engineering costs related to roof repairs. The 2009 budget will also contain $25,000 for a library system vehicle. That money was in the 2008 budget and is being rolled into 2009.
The new budget contains an additional $82,000 for the planning department. That money will be used as required matching funds for a state grant that will fund preliminary development at the Brown's Mill Battlefield Park.
The 5311 "dial-a-ride" transportation system required an additional $10,000, and the county will be contributing $50,000 toward erecting flashing school zone signs at schools in the county.
The final rollover from the 2008 budget is $15,000, to provide electronic displays for the commission chambers.
The board also approved a part-time position for the probate court. The position will be paid for out of savings in the probate court budget.
[Correction: Though the commissioners discussed a new part-time position for probate court, the position was not approved. The money that would have funded the position — a surplus in the court’s budget — will remain in the budget. We regret the error.]
