Almost half of all drivers have admitted breaking the speed limit in the last month, it has emerged.
Noel Brett, of the Road Safety Authority, said drivers must realise their foot is on the accelerator and that excess speed is the single biggest contributory factor to deaths and serious injuries on Irish roads.
The AA survey also revealed motorists disregard speed limits despite more than 40% being been stopped at a Garda checkpoint in the past year.

Not sure why people admit to doing something illegal.... This is just going to fuel the police to do more enforcement

It was a like the survey they did in 2007 asking people how much they would be willing pay for gas before they start changing their driving habits or get rid of their SUV.

Most people said around $3 to $3.50 then a year later we are all paying that price. Those idiot just told the oil companies the max they will pay without cutting back.

Most people speed only because the limits are excessively low relative to actual safe/prudent/comfortable speeds on many roads.

It's almost like making blinking while walking illegal, then asking people how many of them blink while walking...
