Police departments to partner, patrol highways

Associated Press3:01 AM CDT, June 25, 2009 CHICAGO - The Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies will be patrolling Chicago Area Expressways to ticket dangerous drivers and reduce fatal crashes.

Fatalities on the expressways are higher right now than they were in all of 2008. The Illinois State Police say this year's death rate has broken the five-year decline.

Officers will drive marked and unmarked vehicles, in search of the five most fatal road violations: driving under the influence, speeding, improper lane usage, following too closely and unfastened seat belts.

Motorcycle enforcement bureau units and covert vehicles will also be dispatched.

Photo traps will be used in construction zones.

ughh...

I have seen 10x more traffic enforcement on the highways this year then any other year since I moved to IL back on 02. I would like to see these traffic fatalities statistics for all of these years because I have a feeling they are not telling us the truth. (there's a shock)

this is all a load of BS to generate more revenue for the state since they can not balance the budget. and cook county is broke as well and is looking to generate revenue so they don't have to cut programs to all the freeloaders.

maybe I am missing something but I have not heard anything on the news about increased deaths on the highways nor have the reports of accidents been unusual. in fact I have not been delayed because of an accident all year so far and I drive all over.
