State Police are stepping up enforcement efforts this weekend on interstates 64 and 66.
Operation Air, Land and Speed will be conducted tomorrow and Saturday on both interstates.
“Speed and reckless and distracted driving endanger too many lives on the commonwealth’s roads,“ said Col. W. Steven Flaherty, Virginia State Police superintendent. “Every motorist must remember to buckle up and drive defensively not aggressively while they are behind the wheel, especially during the holiday season.“
The last time Operation Air, Land and Speed concentrated on I-64 and I-66 was Dec. 5-6, 2008, when troopers cited 1,783 speeders, 251 reckless drivers and 227 safety-belt violators.
State police receive federal funding for the highway traffic safety program.
