This is CHP 101. They do this whenever there is a fatal on all my local canyon roads too.

If I see a fatal on one of them I stay away for a couple of weeks until they are done showing face.

At least they do it for good reason then. Most of the time around here there can be fatal accident after fatal and you wont see an officer out in the general accident prone area just in their hot spots.

If officers really focused on accident prone areas I'd be less likely to be anti speed trap.

It's a good reason, I guess ... but the fatal already happened. So they are just showing face after the fact. If it's a known, dangerous road or spot, then they should probably be there all the time (though I'm glad they are not, because the dangerous spots are usually the most fun ).

I once got pulled over by a local LEO who told me he was giving me a ticket "because a female officer got run off this road and crashed last week." It had nothing to do with me, but because of that they decided to enforce the road and I got nailed. I beat the ticket in court but it was still an annoyance.

You all may hate me for this, but there are a few things that should be looked at when there are accidents at a prone spot.

A new traffic study should be done, calming devices installed , wider lanes ect, then if that does not work, try speed cameras at locations such as this. But do have the facts of accidents prior to installing such. I hate to see anyone harmed but as I state all the time, speed is not number 1 according to NTSB.
