LAS VEGAS -- Nevada Highway Patrol isn’t expected to be everywhere at once, but a spokesperson told FOX5 that on some nights, a lack of manpower is to blame for slow response and in one case, none at all.

A Las Vegas couple followed an elderly woman driving 25 mph on the 215 Beltway, recording the incident on a cell phone for 12 miles as traffic whizzed by at normal speeds.

“That night we only had eight troopers on to cover the whole valley,” Trooper Joseph Fackrell told FOX5.

    not a shock at all.

unless there is money to be made for the state or a high profile drug bust the HP will move along.

this old lady is just as dangerous or more dangerous then a drunk. but the fine and glory of busting grandma for going 25 is nothing. but the fine and glory of busting a drunk is much higher and a priority. why do you think they keep lowering the BAC? to arrest more "drunks" to collect more revenue. we all know @ .08 they can't find a drunk without a check point, why is that? because they are more then likely not too impaired to drive at that low a level.

It sounds like more of a protest by claiming lack of resources than a willingness to deal with the most dangerous aspects of highway safety.

I'd say driving that slowly on a freeway is more dangerous than doing 100.

how severe an accident is, is determined on speed differential. take grandma going 25, now hit her with a car going 70. The speed differential is 45mph. That is exactly like you hitting a wall going 45 mph. Now take a speeder going 100mph and have them hit a car going 70, with a speed differential of only 30 mph, it is like hitting a wall at 30 mph, much less energy is used in this accident compared to the first one.
