Default GA passes seatbelt law for trucks.

House votes to eliminate seat belt exemption for pickups | ajc.com

Looks like they've finally done it, I believe the ga legislature tried to pass this years ago, but it was shot down by some of the rural representatives. I'm certainly not opposed to seatbelts, but I don't believe the government should tell me I have to wear one, in a car or truck.

Why would there have been an exemption in the first place? Pickups are statistically more dangerous and easier to roll over. Not saying I agree or disagree with seatbelt laws either way, just that such an exemption doesn't make sense.

the rural lawmakers saw to it that the only way GA could pass a seatbelt law at all was to include an exemption for trucks, mainly because of the use of trucks on the farm and in ag practices.

When the original seat belt law was passed the speaker of the house was Tom Murphy. Murphy was pretty crooked, and voted a lot of things for his personal benefit. For instance, many of the DUI laws passed during his tenure benefited his law firm.

Tom Murphy drove a truck. Tom Murphy didn't wear seat belts.

    2 + 2 = 4

As someone who has a truck as part of his set of vehicles, I've always found the portion of the law exempting pickups to be silly. Matter of fact, I find seat belt laws to be silly. Any who doesn't wear one is being stupid with their life, but they should have the freedom to make that choice.
