Default Yahoo Article - What Not to Say When Pulled Over by a Cop

    http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home...-over-by-a-cop

    Funny parts:

Moreover, the truth can set you free. Koep recalled an incident when he pulled a young guy over for speeding.

"He looks straight at me and says, 'You know, officer, I wasn't even paying attention. I just had the best date of my life. I just met my future bride. I'm just on cloud nine right now.'
"So I get a lot of, 'I'm sorry, baby. I didn't mean it, sweetheart,'" she said. "I hate being called 'baby' or 'sweetheart.' I'm 'officer' to you.''

Lol, its a trick just to get citizens to self-incriminate.

"We ask the questions, not them"

Oh really?? Unfortunately most people believe that its true and they have to answer questions.

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

Incorrect: "If it wasn't because you saw me talking on my cell phone or not wearing my seat belt, it has to either be because I was speeding or you saw me litter that joint out my window. I doubt it is because my windows are tinted, because I rolled them down before you could see them. Also, I don't think you smelt the dead bodies in my trunk, because they are tightly packed and well hidden under my machine guns."

    Answer questions with questions!
Correct: "Sir, why did you pull me over?"

Anyone who thinks that's BS obviously is saying the wrong things when pulled over!

I posted this sometime ago, but it's funny enough to repeat - and matches well with this story.

My wife was driving home with our daughter, who was in the back seat. She was driving 65 in a 45 zone, and a CHP cruiser flips a u-turn and pulls her over. He walks up to the car and starts the usual banter - 'do you know how fast you were driving', etc.

Then my daugter, looks up at him from back seat and blurts, "Hey, aren't you Rebecca's dad?". CHP officer looks at her and then says to my wife "I think I pulled over the wrong car - you weren't speeding, were you?". Turns out my daughter was best-friends with CHP officers daughter, and was in fact going over to their house that night. CHP guy says to daughter before walking off, "I'll see you tonight".

    Best countermeasure ever.

To say some leos don't profile would be completely inaccurate. I've talked to a few leos who work in some very high rent areas. They flat out say that are looking for the kid in the chevy cobalt or dodge neon. They'll follow him until he makes a lane violation and then initiate a stop. They've even hinted at they like to stop people who don't belong in the area. Wouldn't you consider that profiling? The city I live in is about 97percent Caucasian, but the ratio of traffic stops involving African Americans is much higher than 3 percent.
I believe in the most discriminating city around here an African American driver is 1,700 times more likely to be stopped than a white driver, according to a study done by the attorney general. I can back this up with my own observations too. (I'm completely white just so you know)

It's unfortunate that most of my encounters with leos on traffic stops have only been with the traffic units. It seems like those guys don't even give their grandmas breaks. There is no consideration or judgment. Write, write, and write some more fast, seems to be their mentality. I've heard some of the traffic units around here through my own ears make up speeds before they pulled drivers over if you can believe it.

Yeah, that went out in the early 90s. And anyone in LE since the early nineties should be past traffic duty by now.

Now, when they ask "What did you stop me for?!" before the standard speech is given their odds of getting a ticket increase somewhat.
Word. I have to bite my tongue to keep from snapping back at them with, "Ya know, I pulled you over with no intention of telling you why!" Morons.

Throw in, "You stopped me because I'm black/white/asian." and your odds of walking away with a warning drop even more.
Well, with one exception. If you say that, but you're white, I laugh my arse off and let you off with a warning.

    Works for me every time!

I read a story somewhere and it was supposedly told from the perspective of an officer who had been waiting in the same spot all day for a "big fish".

Finally, a big fish comes flying over the hill at 25+ PSL and the officer lights him and pulls him over.

He then walks up to the car and tells the driver... "I've been wait'n all day for you." To which the driver responds, without skipping a beat...

"Well I got here as quick as I could."

The story said he got a warning.

I was driving at a safe and reasonable speed for the traffic and road conditions.
