Gwinnett May Have To Holster Radar Guns

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Gwinnett County police may not have the authority
 to use their radar guns and laser detectors next year because of an ongoing legal 
dispute.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety sent county officials a letter this month 
warning them they could lose the rights to use speed detection devices.

State officials say they must come up with a new agreement guiding how the county 
and its cities deliver services. The county has been in mediation over the agreement 
since the last one expired.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Gordy Wright said the permits for Gwinnett 
and six cities within the county’s limits expire Dec. 31. He said the warning letter was 
a “heads up.”

I'm sure the "legal dispute" will be resolved before the end of the year. But, one can dream, no?

Yes, you can dream but in reality they will settle the legal dispute by the end of the year. The towns mentioned in the dispute are Auburn, Duluth, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Norcross, Suwanee and Gwinnett County. They are so dependent on the revenue generated from speeding tickets that they could never be without the speed detection equipment. The Duluth PD write so many tickets that they would have to cut back on city services or increase property taxes to make up for the loss revenue.
