Hmmm...government agencies doing their own polling? Sound like someone is trying to allocate monies to CHP and locals.

what a load of BS propaganda.

At the same time, 47 percent of drivers admitted they have chatted on hand-held cell phones while behind the wheel in the previous month, and nearly that many admit they have made a driving mistake while talking on either a hand-held or hands-free cell phone.
More than half of drivers said they have been hit or nearly hit by a driver talking on a cell phone.

and they are more afraid of speeders????

Notably, 96 percent of drivers report they always wear a seat belt. And 86 percent said they support law enforcement's use of sobriety checkpoints.

well I would say some of those people were lying because I bet if you cross checked seat belt tickets with the above it would come out to a lower % wear seat belts.

    86% approve of illegal searches?

State officials said they were surprised to learn only 60 percent of drivers had noticed the state's "Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911" campaign, often displayed on freeway changeable message boards, a campaign financed by the state safety office.
thats because 60% of drivers are not paying any attention to the road!!! they are talking on the phone, texting, eating, putting on makeup, reading or using the internet (I have seen this several times and almost got hit once)

if this was a real poll the #1 should be distracted driving! but then again how can you get people to admit that they drive distracted daily when they think what they do is perfectly fine.

the distracted bad drivers are the ones complaining about the speeders because they have no clue what is going on around them when they take an exit from the left lane at the last minute crossing 5 lanes of traffic. ( saw this the other day, well all the time but this guy was the worst.)

It may well be area specific, but in my experience their statistic is accurate. You have to really look hard to find anyone not wearing a seatbelt down here. Of course, compliance is better on the freeway than in the inner city.

    People are idiots.
Im going to speak for everyone on this site who speeds...
We are 100% more alert than the ass dragger in the left lane. I know when I speed, I am always alert, scanning ahead for cops and other potential hazards. I will NEVER talk on the phone, eat, or mess with my ipod.
I find that when I drive slow I seem to fall into a trance and drive with the flow of things, not being as alert as when speeding. I get bored driving slow.
So if anything, I would say we are safer drivers than the mom on the cellphone, the 16yo girl doing makeup, or the fatass stuffing a bigmac down his throat.
