The criminals will just learn to commit their crimes on windy days and plan their escape routes accordingly.

The theory is sound. Works for us in Iraq and Afghanistan. I've got pics of the blimps tethered over the Green Zone. But that's heavily controlled airspace too. You can't just go operating radio controlled aircraft in civil airspace any time or way you wish too. It is a hazard to navigation, for which the FAA will not hesitate to quickly shut you down. The liability and return on investment is simply not cost-worthy.

Now, if you were to use something like this as a tactical surveillance tool, like a ground robot, in specific deployment situations, that could indeed be a very good idea. But as a routine "eye in the sky", this is bollocks.

I watched on "How do they do it?" (TV SHOW) and they had Arizona State Police on there. They were showing how they have a remote control air plate and it glides and has a wireless camera on it. Anyway they said they use it to fly over and watch for drug deals without the people even knowing they are there.

Besides, I know in a small town in IL just on the other side of St. Louis police just put cameras on polls and can remotely control them and watch them in areas of need.

Then in the same county they have a old armored truck and it is used for crime suppression. They just park it in areas of high levels of crime and let it sit and record as well as stream live so they can see everything!

While surveilance blimps are useful for keeping an eye on the 'enemy' in a war Zone, the USA far as i know is NOT a war zone or is it?
There is technically no freedom in occupied territories in war zones nor will there be any freedom in this country when our politicians monitor every single move of its citizens the vast vast majority of whom are law-abiding.
Here we go again, trading freedom from the prying eyes of government in the name of that 'sacred cow' thing called security.
IMO smacks of 'Big Brother' gestapo tactics.

My interpretation of the flashing eye FWIW is the 'higher power' that created all, sees and knows all.
Problem is when some mortal humans strive for it also. History has shown time and time again that those who seek a perfect society, that elusive 'Heaven on Earth' end up with dictatorships instead whether it be fascist or communist. Human nature, yep!
