Default New Texas Speed Limit - 85 mph??

I would love and 85mph speed limit in GA. Thats means I could do 100mph with no police issues (usually)...

People develop a habit. If they raise the speed limit, that will only lessen the revenue. I can't imagine people switching their habit because of the law. Plus it would question the SUPERSPEEDER law.

You just validated the point that so many people argue with me.

It really doesn't matter how high we raise the speed limits. The majority of you will still insist on going faster, simply because you want to. So really, all this pathetic whining about artificially low speed limits is disingenuous bullshyte.

It surprises me that they're raising the speed limits since gas prices are increasing so much.

Well, this site isn't really representative of the majority of the driving public. Many of us are speed demons, that's why we're on a RD forum to start with.

I personally, in my current car, see 80-85 mph as a sweet spot, and raising the limit to 85 isn't going to make me start driving 100-105. Instead, I'll continue doing 80-85 (maybe hit 90 more frequently) without worrying about getting a ticket.

By your argument, if they raised the limit to 100 everyone would start going 115-120? I doubt it. The best way to solve the "speeding problem" is to raise the limit to something reasonable. And by reasonable, I mean something higher than the majority of people would feel safe or comfortable driving at, because it is supposed to be a speed LIMIT. With a reasonable limit, the majority of us who cruise around 80-85 can continue to do so without worrying, and then the LEOs can concentrate their efforts on those who actually drive dangerously instead of just trying to raise revenue by shooting fish in a barrel.

If you drive between Dallas and Houston on a Sunday afternoon you will think 85 IS the speed limit

It warms my heart that they're not rolling out that tired old rhetoric. The speed limit should be set for safety and no other reason, or else it loses its authority.

Revenue. You can bet the fines will go up with the speed limit. I would guess considerably. Texas has a budget crunch also
