How could the city government sue him for doing a petition ? I would think they would need to have some sort of legal reason, not just "I am going to sue this guy because he annoys me".

DITTO! This was exactly my question when I read this. 'What exactly was the city's expressed justification for a lawsuit in this case?' Unfortunately, this article never really addressed this question.

I hope these "anti-SLAPP" laws are adopted in every state, because this kind of thing is no isolated incident. This lawsuit shows pure contempt for voters on the part of the city, and anyone who took part in or supported this action needs to be removed from public office as soon as possible. Tyrants.

there is a lot more to this story, this is just one instance of people over stepping their authority. In this case the town already sign an 18 months deal with the RLC company and if the camera's get shut down between now and the contract date the city own the entire amount no matter what. So of course they do not want these cameras band since they will have to pay money they do not have.

Also it sounds like the State of WA have been intimidating anyone attempting to collect signature for any laws which the people in the government do not agree with.
