Default Infrared HUD on newer vehicles

I imagine this would be an INCREDIBLY helpful tool to have, I mean, the system is designed to pick up even a friggin' deer on the side of the road...

imagine this... let's say you don't have a radar detector or laser jammer. You're driving along, especially at night, it's 70 degrees out, and a cop is sitting there in the median in his car with a nice toasty engine bay, and probably other parts as well (including the cop himself). All of a sudden, your Heads-Up Display (HUD) system plops a box around this distant object that you can't even see yet. You drive another 2000 feet, and all of a sudden you kinda see a reflector in the median, another 1000 feet and you pass by a cop clocking people. But for you, 3000 feet away (say once you crested a hill), your HUD notified you of something in the median, so you slowed down.

    Sounds good.

I think it would depend on the effective range of the Heads-Up-Display (HUD) of your vehicle regarding the amount of time you have to react to any "unusual" road conditions.

I know they have it, but does it really work that way and that well?
