Default Tom Tom Go 910 Question?

I am a little confused with the Tom Tom when it says that it has a bar, threat, and tech display. Does that mean that the tom tom is a radar detector also. I am assuming so, but uncertain. I am interested in buying this unit for my job since I travel to different stores( i.e. Walmart, Target, Kmart,....) in areas that I am uncertain with. I couldn't find any recent discussions on this so I thought I would start a new updated one. Also, if you have handled this unit before what are the +'s and -'s. And have they changed since the unit was released. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.

I have a fairly new TomTom Go 510, not much different from the 910 which has an internal harddrive and voice for street names. These are GPS navigation units, not a radar detector. I like it so far. It gives clear directions when I drove back to Vancouver from Portland.

Bar, threat and tech display? It sounds like a Bel detector you're talking about. I know nothing about these features on a TomTom Go GPS.

Well let me rephrase the original question. On Roy's site for example, it says that it has a bar graph, threat display, or tech display. Now on my Bel I know what those mean the way the alerts are displayed, but what does it mean on a GPS unit? This is where I got the idea that the GPS has a built in RD in it because of this display modes. Sorry for the confusion :?

hmmm... i'm wondering if it's a typo. i went and looked and you're right. it sounds more like the description for a Bel RD.

i'll pass it on to Roy.

hey Ace i was looking to buy a gps too and I found that garmin has one of the best receivers in the market. They compared the c550 against the tom tom and although both use the newest sirf chipsets the garmin had better reception, almost full bars even indoors but the downside to garmin is that it has less cool features and a smaller screen

Well I am happy with my Tomtom. Although it cost about $840 with tax it is a very good unit. When I first got it I tested it around town giving it destinations I knew how to get to and for the most part I ended up discovering faster shortcuts to outbeat traffic. This is what really impressed me about it. To my knowledge I have never gotten lost when using this unit. It is easy to use and does have more features then the garmin like you said even though I have never used a garmin before. So I am taking your word for it  But it is definately a keeper!
