Thanks for all the info AL. Yes, I received the email; thanks for taking the time.

I was looking at your Active Stealth too, but I'm curious how quick the PDA receives the signal. For example, when I use my bluetooth headset, there's about 1-2 seconds delay before I hear the ring in my headset. Is it any faster when the alarm signals to the PDA/phone?

    Thanks.

We should probably have a seperate thread about ActiveStealth to keep things from getting confused. It's going to take a while for most folk to absorb our stuff becuase it's all pretty new.

The actual time it takes for alerts to display on a device will vary. ActiveStealth GPS alerts for redlight cameras, etc obviously have no delay. The wireless signals from radar detectors and laser jammers are relayed instantly. There is always going to be a very slight delay of about a second for any PDA to display an RD alert or LJ alert. It's the nature of the hardware. The deciding factor is it not the software or the transmitter - we've spent a lot of time to get the software running lightening quick for precisely that reason. In the end, it will always depend on the individual processing power of the PDA, pocket PC phone or smartphone that you run the ActiveStealth Software on.

Wireless transmissions from RD's and LJ's to our own hardware products like the GPS Mirror and the Vizalert are instantaneous.

Yea, that makes sense. It can only be as good as the other hardware.

This was split from the mirror topic, for a discussion on ActiveStealth.

    You've got me worried now...

Sorry if this sounds a bit off but....

I was all set to buy Cheetah in January esp. for the activeStealth through a smartphone. However, a one second delay is a lo<----->ng time time in the "reaction to laser" game.

The whole point of activeStealth is that it should be active (i.e ON) and stealthy (i.e switches everything OFF below the speed limit). Being painted by a laser for a second without knowing about it is just useless if I'm above the limit.

    Therefore questions....

Is there a best spec for a smartphone or which is the fastest smartphone or which do you recommend (UK) and/or how do I minimise the lag (given that you say there is no lag on your mirror or vizalert).

Cheetah say that you need to buy their GPS antenna rather than have a phone/pda built in one, so it can't be that.

Therefore what is it in a smartphone bluetooth set up that causes the delay? Probably a dumb ass question, but I don't know the answer.

Will my jammer still fire by itself without any callback to the activeStealth first?

Also have you a rough sales date for the connector to any 3 letter anti-Blinder parking sensor that may exist?

Thanks in advance and sorry if my tone isn't the best, but I thought this stuff was pure genious until I read this thread.

ActiveStealth is the software on your phone/PDA that ties in all your alerts from different sources (detector, jammer, cameras) to one display screen.
the hardware, ie. detector, jammer still work the same.
your jammer will still fire immediately. depending upon the speed of the processor in your phone or pda, it could take up to 1 second to come across with the alert. you are still jamming instantly.

    Therefore questions....

sorry, this one they'll have to answer, since i have not tested or seen any reports on which phones and pda's have faster processing ability.
testing on there products, the second i shoot a vehicle with laser, they are alerting, just as if there were no wireless products involved, it's that fast.

Cheetah say that you need to buy their GPS antenna rather than have a phone/pda built in one, so it can't be that.

their GPS antenna has the wireless built in, so that it can efficiently communicate LASERnode, RADARnode, etc. alerts to your receiving product, such as AUDIOnode, Vizalert, mirror, etc..

Therefore what is it in a smartphone bluetooth set up that causes the delay? Probably a dumb ass question, but I don't know the answer.

my guess, processing speed, but they can probably give a more solid answer.

    Yes, as mentioned above.

Also have you a rough sales date for the connector to any 3 letter anti-Blinder parking sensor that may exist?

None yet, i suspect the products coming soon will be released first, then one those other company's settle on a standard, without changes from revision to revision, Cheetah will work on those connectors.

Thanks in advance and sorry if my tone isn't the best, but I thought this stuff was pure genious until I read this thread.

Your welcome, i hope this helped.

    it's good to ask questions.
we want happy customers who know exactly what they are getting.

Part of the reason for starting to talk on this board about ActiveStealth now, before it has been released, is to give Roy’s customers the opportunity to fully understand how it all works so you are kept ahead of the game. ActiveStealth is pretty flexible so it may take a little time for some of the intricacies to be fully understood. It will probably be helpful to everyone if I provide an explanation of what ActiveStealth is all about and I'll do that in more detail later. For now I hope this helps.

ActiveStealth software is meant for people who already have a PDA or Pocket PC phone running Windows Mobile 5 (or 2003). The whole point of the software is to provide convenient GPS warnings of hazards like accident blackspots, speed and red-light cameras, etc on existing equipment that you already own and use everyday, so you don't have to buy yet another gadget for the car. It covers all the fixed cameras types that your radar detectors and laser jammers don’t warn you about and keeps you safer on the road by giving you advance awareness of dangerous locations. We don't expect customers to have to go out and buy a new pocket PC / phone just for us, although I am sure some will. As an optional extra, ActiveStealth lets you integrate laser jammer and radar detector alerts into your PDA / smartphone if you want to, so that you have everything coming through one device.

The brief answer to your question, Nomad, is that there is nothing to worry about. You can control when a jammer switches on and off, completely independently from whether or not you want to receive the on-screen alerts. For most people the on screen alerts are fine as they are. However, if you are concerned that the processing time of a PDA, etc (1 second) to display a visual alert is too long for you, just stick with your original piezo buzzer and LED alerts from your original jammer system. This way you keep exactly the same warnings that you get now, but you add in the "stealthy" features you want ActiveStealth for, (e.g. shutting down as soon as you drop below the stealth speed setting so you don't have to remember to switch it off manually, programmable jam times, etc.)

At launch ActiveStealth will integrate on-screen alerts from Blinder, Lidatek and Target systems. All these systems are currently more suitable for use with ActiveStealth because they offer protection within a few seconds of powering up which is ideal when you are switching them on and off based on the GPS speed of the vehicle.

We will be manufacturing a solution for using your jammer with the GPS Mirror and the Vizalert motorcycle helmet system but at the moment our engineers are busy on the main products. We will get round to other accessories as soon as we can but it will be later in 2007 and I just can't give you a date yet. Incidentally both of these other new products, the GPS mirror and the Vizalert will be available through Roy.

Nomad, this wireless solution will make your jammer work with ActiveStealth, because all our products are designed to work together, but please be aware that the three letter abbreviation product you are referring to has a 60 second delay before it is fully armed and ready to fire so there are other issues there to consider when using this jammer with ActiveStealth. As you don’t already use a PDA or Pocket PC phone, you might be better to consider the GPS mirror instead for GPS safety alerts and for integrating your jammer with that product instead.

Thanks for the detailed response Allyoops and sorry about sounding like a wuss.

I was just trying to find a really discrete set up for all these accessories I keep having to install, especially in light of forthcoming legislation.

I'm totally sold on activeStealth as a concept and thought having it in a smartphone was the ultimate covert system. The mirror does look good, but I'm just fed up of all the third party clip on items cluttering up my interior. Doesn't matter how discrete they are, I know they are there. And, I hate to say this, but the “posing” factor of having your detector interface on your mobile is quite high!

Running everything bluetooth will also help a lot with "quick releases" after any encounters. Just in case I get an "E04 early morning alarm call" a few days later.

I've never programmed for Windows Mobile but it would drive me nuts knowing that one system is immediate and the Windows version delays.

Anyway, I'll shut up; you thought it up, you wrote it, I didn't.

One last question re the sentinel... how much performance degradation is there in the laser head by mounting it horizontally? Question is just for info.

Again, many thanks for the detailed response and thinking about and working the concept out. I’d been banging on to Origin to do something like this for about 12 months. Hopefully come Q1, my b2 units and associated gubbins will be heading for eBay along with my turn of the century iPaq and Haier pen phone.

No degredation in laser detection at all. With the laser sensor you have to make sure it has line of sight though otherwise you're handicapping your chances. I wouldn't recommend relying on any laser detector over here. Get a laser jammer for that.

As lots of guys will confirm on here, radar detection range can improved my mounting a radar detector vertically, rather than horizontally. It's particularly useful for radar cameras and traps in the UK and Europe.

If you have a radar detector head attached to your B2 already, try turning it 90 degrees from it's current horizontal to vertical and you should notice an increased detection range from the back of GATSO's etc.

I've got mine vertical already, but... have you seen the Origin RD? It's the size of a half brick! Getting it in any way up and strapped down is a major task. Range isn't very good where the Gatso is facing away from you, but I rely on the GPS for those sorts of things.

Anyway, this is going off topic, so I'll shut up now.

    Thanks again
