I actually talked to a LEO on the CB before. His handle is Trooper off of I-94. He was stating how laser guns never make mistakes and all and I had to proove him wrong. Since I was in a big truck, I stated to him that I had a laser gun w/ me. I also stated I would be willing to pull over at such and such mile marker to show him my device. HE NEVER CAME! This sure got a lot of truckers rilled up, seeing that the officer stopped talking and never came to show up. Sometimes, a LEO may need one of us truckers to cut off a person they are in a high speed chase with. I have seen this too!

Here in the UK i've heard they've switched to digital sytems, and being digital they are encrypted. Dont know if its true, or how widespread the use is.

Gonna look into to it, cause ive been done speeding 3 times, and 2 of those were them pacing me (the VASCAR system). Luckily the 2nd time a wiggled my way out of it without having to go to court! So only 2 offences on my license.

polakatl is correct, CB's are not for police use their for truckers and other motorist. However, they can benefit you while on the interstate. Truckers use Channel 19 to rely Traffic Reports and Officers doing speed enforcement. They'll often shout out to other truckers if they see officers around and warn them.

I myself use a Uniden BC246T Scanner with the Close Call feature.
The Close Call feature as stated above will pick up near by signals.

Sometimes this will help sometimes it won't. Unless they are running a speed trap you will hardly hear anything but a License check after they have already pulled someone. You can't go wrong with a good high end detector.

so you use the uniden piece WITH your 8500 x50? is this a good set up, do they compensate for each other well? i need more less a "cop scanner" since im in a huge city, most of the issues come up with constables and patrol cars just cruising around rather than them stationary with radars on.. btw i have an 8500 non x50.
