This might sound silly...

but is it just me or does someof you had the same thoughts...

How come, these people who each year come out with new radar/laser detectors aren't able to invent something else...

I always tell my friend, what we need is a detector the detects and warns you of a police vehicle thats half a mile ahead of you somewhere etc.

I mean all police and highyway patrol cars have a certain feaquence constantly on,not by choice to determine always where they are located etc....

Couldn't anyone invent a detector that mainly detects highway patrol and police cars...based on their freaquence only cops use and have...which can not turned off by them.

If I drive...I do not care,what the cop does or what laser or radar he uses...
Bottom line, If I know a cop is sitting half a mile on the road ahead of me I wanna know....and would slow down automatically

esspecially when cops do the secret pacing on you wihtout using anything,just driving behind you or what not....no radar detector can protect you from pacing...

I do not believe this is a crazy idea and think this could be easily made,from a realistic point of view...

I am sure the newest V1 today, would have been PERFECT protection 10-15 years ago...but today with all the laser guns etc...and the jammers aren't 100% either

Get a scanner and program the input frequencies. Most systems are now 800 MHz trunked, and the portable and handhelds do not have long range. So they transmit to repeaters to rebroadcast their signal. When you hear an input frequency, the LEO is likely to be in close range. The repeater is on the output frequency.

Some scanners, like the Uniden 396T, have a Close Call feature that picks up nearbly radio transmissions. I have not used this feature very much, so I don't know how much range it has. Some other users report very short range, maybe too short. Plus it does pick up some other signals.

Are these perfect solutions? No way! But right now, that is as close as you're going to get.

I thought using a CB radio basically acts like a cop scanner if you know what frequency they are using. Just make sure not to broadcast on that frequency because it is an emergency frequency...

CB stands for Citizen's Band. Its for civilian use and cops don't use it for their communication. You can use a scanner to listen in on police, but not to transmit.

polakatl is correct, CB's are not for police use their for truckers and other motorist. However, they can benefit you while on the interstate. Truckers use Channel 19 to rely Traffic Reports and Officers doing speed enforcement. They'll often shout out to other truckers if they see officers around and warn them.

I myself use a Uniden BC246T Scanner with the Close Call feature.
The Close Call feature as stated above will pick up near by signals.

Sometimes this will help sometimes it won't. Unless they are running a speed trap you will hardly hear anything but a License check after they have already pulled someone. You can't go wrong with a good high end detector.

Actually, I think your correct on this. They may flip to channel 19 from time to time to see what's going on. Also, they may monitor Channel 09.

I can't verify this now but I know they use to have it in their cars 15 years ago for a fact.
