Default Tilting front licence plate slightly downward

I was wondering if angling the front license plate slightly downward so it would not be perpendicular to the Lidar beam would slightly increase the time for the gun to get a speed reading.

Sure it would. A laser beam moving at the speed of light...... uh....... let's say....... maybe you'd have a trillionth of a second more to react.

Of course you understand that LIDAR measures speed by using pulses of light and precise measurements. Just as an example, the LTI 20-20 unit uses 40 pulses of light fired in less than 1/3 of a second.

    Back to the drawing board!

I don't know. Theoretically I guess tilting the license plate slightly downward might help a just very teeny tiny amount since the specular reflection off of the license plate is greatest for the light which strikes normal to the surface.

I was thinking the same thing. Then I just decided to remove the plate completely.

Just put your plate in your windshield. Thats what I do. No problems yet.

i think the greatest advantage to tilting your plate away from the normal is by reducing the cross-sectional area that is exposed to the laser beam.. not so much on the reflectivity part.

That's interesting, especially for places where front plate is mandatory. I wonder if anyone else here didn't/have problems with cops because of this. What I've usually seen on the road is, mostly trucks have plates behind windshield, but those are the fake plates with their nicks or whatever while the real ones are where they're supposed to be.

I wont matter, the officer will be painting enough of the rest of the body of the vehicle that reaction time would be negligable.

    ^ +1.

For as "optimistic" as I am about LIDAR lock-times, I still agree with amoney on this one.

Unless the vehicle has other countermeasures in-place, this is going to be a trivial concern.
