Wont buy navalert now!

I was going to buy a Navalert but seeing as they are no longer doing updates and you have to store your own locations I will just use my 9500i. It makes no sense to buy it when I can do the same thing with my RD...I liked it because of the database.

Well, they just removed the fee they were charging and they are starting to do updates for FREE again......Latest file is JUNE 25th 2008

However if you want my recommendation,

Last update before the June 25th 2008 file was 4 months ago from them, after many posts back and forth and some e-mails.......they finally made an update.

If i was you i would still 50/50 consider buying the unit, i would hold off on it just to see if they still maintain doing the updates every so often like 2-4weeks or so however you said you have the 9500i which from what i can remember does the same thing as the navalert but +radar/laser so its an ALL IN ONE unit which is good.

That's just my 2cents......Its totally up to you if you want buy it and compare the performance of both units.

??Store your own locations? We never stated we would not be updating the red light and speed cameras, we simply won’t be expanding the "possible mobile" section.

We were going to modify the database so it would only alert "reduce speed" in possible mobile areas if traveling over the speed limit thus we will simply only alert possible mobile in known to spots.

The reduce speed feature would have required many man power hours to configure correctly. We have canceled this project only.

Navalert is a simple to update and use unit for the masses, it not a radar detector, if you want that you need a the 9500 - which will not tell you to reduce speed or the speed limit at the camera.

Both units have advantages, if you compare them you would see the benefits of each.


Our customers want the advantage to here "reduce speed" and speed limit "xx" when speeding at speed cameras and the ability to update the unit easily.

One slight issue with this comment.

Your new system is anything less than easy, it seems to require your users to jump through hoops, i have heard many a complaint from other forum members, and now I have my own. Why not just use the old system that worked so well, and was actually so simplex click here and download? Makes alot more sense then sending me some email of an invoice for what purpose? I'm still sitting here scratching my head wondering what the heck did they do? So Updated "EASILLY" Just went out the window.

As a person who used to love his navalert and infact did multipule movies featuring it working/not working. This is upseting.

I believe also it is a little frustrating especially when you think things went thru and they didn't. It would be nice if an alert or email came to your email box telling you the downloaded link actually updated your Navalert. Since I recently updated my Navalert, is 8064 to newest software? Curious?
