If you have a truck, put your tailgate down? Aren't most cameras mounted high enough for the tailgate to block the plate but still be seen from behind?
What about having a plate that is hard to read, like 0OO00O or B88B8BB?

The first one looks good.
IL won't let you mix numbers and letters, but I can get WVWWVV
I know a lot of cops that will write you for driving with a tailgate down. Most states probably have a law against it.
Driving with the tailgate down...I never thought about that...
x2 on what the ticket would be for...
Is the law put in place just for the RLC's?
EDIT: Cow, dig much? This thread was like from a year ago...![]()
I didn't notice that. I rarely venture into this section, apparently it's slow enough that ooooold ass threads never get pushed out.
I would think that it's a safety issue - they want you to hit the trucks bumper, not the tailgate. The solution would be carry a piece of pipe in the bed that's just long enough that it requires the tailgate to be down, then you shouldn't get harassed about it.
...unless you're in a tiny town where they would notice you've been dragging the same piece of pipe around for a month.

In some states like Michigan it is illegal to drive with the tailgate down. Also some of the newer trucks, like the toyotas, are built so cheaply that it says in the owners manual never to do this. Seems the tailgate falls apart when you hit a bump. Way to go toyota![]()
