Actually, a "specific-for-laser" plate cover, such as the LaserShield, or specifically treating a typical transparent cover with laser-defeating materials, such as VEIL, or by "dressing" the plate, such as using 3M Clear Duct Tape - or even just letting an awful amount of road-crud accumulate on the plate surface - are known and both quantitatively as well as qualitatively proven methods to cut laser "return" from this otherwise *very* laser-reflective area.Originally Posted by deiter33
Yes, the enforcer may still achieve laser lock from the vehicle's various hardpoints (or even the rest of the center-mass metal), but when speaking solely of the state-issued front plate, these *specific* measures can and do help quite a bit.
Another signal-reducing measure that is a favorite here - and has also been proven both qualitatively as well as quantitatively - is the use of a non-metallic/non-"retro-reflective" replica front plate. This can be anything from a color photocopy of the plate, printed on heavy stock, to a purchased commercial fiberglass/plastic replica.
