Who has played around with the GPSRD?

:?: Who here has played around with the GPSRD?

I know...POS! right? No diehard high-end user here would ever be caught dead with one! right? But I see some features on this that are very clever. So clever that Escort mentions the same features in its patent. Looks like a rip off to me, but maybe that is why we do not see one from Escort.

I'm tempted to play with one. I found a source with some factory refurbs going cheap. If nothing else, it looks like a nice GPS receiver with a trip computer to boot. Too bad they didn't make a better detector because some of the ideas put into this thing are really neat. :idea:

So, anyone familiar with the GPSRD. I know there is one regular here who had one (I did a search).

the snooper ones here in the uk have v1 like arrows on them.

someone i know has one, and it works pretty damn good....

it comes with a radar/ laser aswell but the arrows are only controled by the gps!

Neat box! I have read a little about them. It's a cool device for stationary radar.

Actually I was referring to the (dare I say it? :roll: ) Uniden GPSRD. OK OK...POS! But some smart ideas went into this! :wink:

Uniden was shut out of the radar detector business by the FCC a few years back.

I seem to remember people saying that the Uniden GPSRD had a pretty common problem with the units just dying, after a while they would just quit turning on.

The idea is cool and all. But a GPS is the last thing I want in my car. There's already too much big brother monitoring and recording my speed.

What? GPS devices don't transmit, just receive. Unless you've got an ankle bracelet because you just got out of the big house . . .

I missed placed my gpsrd. :( Did save me! Pick up k band 1 mile away.

The trip computer is worthless its in airline miles. The gps was neat top speed,instant speed,average speed. The compass when backing up read which direction that was cool with a arrow.

The database didnt seem to work storing falses. Everytime I turn it off it reset the falses database. Which to me was the coolest feature. Which didnt work. It would store them along as it was on.

I like it! it was my first RD then I upgraded to a 8500! If uniden stay with it. I have no doubt it would have gone far. But all unident cares about is cordless phones etc. :roll:

I wish someone like jimbo would interface it with a escort or V1. That would be pimp. :wink: :idea:

Another reputable manufacturer should jump all over this idea

Roy - Do you think we will ever see something like that here in the US? $1,600 is a little out of my budget! Do you think Mr. V or Belscort is planning to introduce something like this? I read the patent and can't believe they could get away with duplicating some of the same ideas. Other than being a "leakmaster", did the GPSRD have any merit at all?

Jimbo - I read some reviews like that too, but one reviewer said his detector stopped working on a speed sign after a week. He said he sent it back for repair and it happened again. I read the manual and it sounds like he didn't. On a stationary radar source you have to tell the unit it's a real source or it will think it's a door opener. I'm very tempted to play with one. One would hope the refurbs were fixed and had all of the updates. I like the idea and the features are neat. If worse comes to worse, I'll disable the radar and use the navigation and trap reminder. Maybe I could rig a switch to turn it on/off and run it alongside my RX65, although the anti-falsing idea would be defeated.

Tromping_Maniac - Do you have a cell phone? If so, you are being tracked. All cell phone companies are using military GPS to measure the distance to the phone from multiple tower locations. E911 Phase 2 calls show your exact location on the operators' screen. Guess what? Big brother KNOWS where you are (if they want to). Big brother mandated a DIRECT link into all telco equipment for tracing, tapping, and tracking. If the general public knew this, they would be outraged. Well maybe not...these days people just bend over and "take it". Then they keep voting for the people who sell them out in the first place. :roll:

raresvx - Just the man I want to talk to. I read in the manual that the GPSRD erases the stored "hits" if you do not revisit them in " 1 ~ 2 " months (a big flaw in my opinion). Could this be why you loose the data? If you kept it powered on, did the anti-falsing feature work? Tell me all you can about it. Do you think a factory refurb is worth $129? If it was updated with known fixes and did not die, I would think the GPS alone would be worth it. Maybe I could tap the GPS and use it with other devices.

happya$$ - You said it! Escort has a patent with lots of details on how they plan to do it, but it's very much the same as the Uniden. How could they get away with that? Is that why we don't see one from them? Is Uniden holding "the rights"? The big improvement Escort mentioned was sort of "The Borg" idea. It's a "collective conscious" concept where they plan on uploading/downloading other detector users stored data and sharing that info with "the community". They talk of using a USB mass storage device to store the massive amount of false and trap data shared over the Internet. This goes beyond anything done before, but is still using the Uniden idea as a base. Maybe they will buy out the Uniden patent. I would hope so because the anti-falsing idea is ingenious and would save us a (literal) headache. :wink:
