Super 8 Motel in West branch which is roughly 8 Miles from the testing site, and roughly 15 miles from the Meeting location.
989-345-3503
Quality Inn Also located right next door to the Super 8 in West Branch directly off of Exit 212 Right off of I-75 North Bound, or south bound I-75. Also only roughly 8 miles from testing Location, and roughly 15 miles/minutes from Meeting location.

Roughly 4-5 miles from Testing Location. Has it's own resturant, and bowling alley as well, so you could have something to do the night before the meet if desired, the resturant does serve Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
989-685-2668
The Scenic Motel.
A commonly stayed in local motel for people comeing up north on vacations. Not a very High end Motel. Although if on a major budget may be more cost effective to you. This is simply a motel, although there is a local dinner next door that serves outstanding breakfast, they also serve lunch and dinner if desired, although the resturant next door is mainly recommended for breakfast only. There is also a mcdonalds within walking distance of this location, and a Great pizzaria for dinner if desired. All of these facilities are within rougly 800ft or less walking distance from this motel. There is also a gas station right across the street if things are needed. This motel is situated roughly 2,700ft from the meeting location of glens markets. There is also a family dollar, should small things be needed within about 2-3 blocks walk. This motel is roughly 5 miles from the Testing location.
It is reccomended if you plan to attend this event, and stay in one of these establishments, that you call ahead and make reservations. This area is widely used on the weekends as a recreation area for GM workers and Ford motors. If you neglect to plan ahead and make reservations, you might end up sleeping in your car, and AlPiNe doesn't want to see that occur.
Also if you have a CB channel 32 will be in use when getting close to the Meeting location. If you don't have a CB it might be a fun event to obtain one.
Hope to see you all there.
Sincerly.:D

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Hey Alpine,
I'll be back at the meet November 2008, man. I'm arriving at the Quality in on November 14th. Are you going to meet us at the hotel like last year?
I got a rate of $80USD for 1 adult (AAA rate).
I'll bring my STI, V1, and maybe a few surprise devices.
See you then.
PS, where are the vids from last year's event?

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Sounds good Toronto Radar Chopper. I'm having some issues with nma maybe making it. He's saying something about his sisters b-day, and his being around this date. I'm not sure what we should do about that, i'll have to give nma a ring and see if there is anyway he can reschedule.
I really don't wana have to postpone this date, it's already getting more than chilly enough??? Although I did say this was a "Tenititve" Date. I don't want people to have to call and redo any reservations though.. Please hold off everybody for scheduling reservations untill I hammer this out with NMA a little more. Hopefully he can find a way to replan some things...;)

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Please wait on Scheduling Reservations, untill we have a "Set in Stone" date set.
The Nov 15th date was "Tenitive."
I am going to be contacting NMA to see if there is "ANY" way he can make this date as TRC has already set Reservations.
If not the reservations I will call on for TRC, or stop over to WB in person and make things right.
Please wait untill we get this completely figured out. This date was set by myself, and it needs to be discussed with others, so we can make sure it will work for us as a group.

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Hey Alpine,
I can change the reservation date to suite if we need to. Pretty much if we stay around that date I'm in.
But it is certainly getting cooler. Don't want to travel during the first snow fall:cool:

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
I am working on trying to be there fellas and will bring plenty of detectors to test. Question, what items that Alpine and myself do NOT have, can anyone bring? Is there a chance someone can bring the Cheetah C100 dash mounted RLC detector? How about the Bel GX-65 radar detector? Does anyone have the collision avoidance system? I will bring my radar and lidar guns, VG-2, newly updated Spectre II, Cell phone jammer, Phantom RCD for Jimbonzz to drool on, Both of my Bel STi's have the new ramp up fix which we can also test, one of my V1's has recently came back from VR calibrated, and anything else I can think of. This event is for anyone to come to and this DOES include law enforcement too (hopefully in a good way).

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
For the 2009 meet I'll have some more gear. I'm going to buy a lidar gun and a Ka radar gun.
I should have a cb radio for the meet.

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
The 15th is now set in stone after a fire side chat with nma. I recently dislocated my sholder so there may be times where im not on here as frequently the test date is still on! As i will heal up before that date from my moto=x accident. You are good with your reservations trc. It typically is known to not snow here untill the second week of deer season which would normally be a week after the 15th of nov although there has been known to be a rare fluke where we get a LIGHT DUSTING on openening day the 15th. This fluke type of snowfall typically doesnt amount to much an inch tops and road ways are always clear. There will be alot of hunters out here so make sure you bring an orange peice of clothing to have on that will be visable. This is for everybody's saftey!!
Also reservations now are a good idea the date is set in STONE and isnt going to moved. The reason reservations are good to do now is because hunting season opens in mich the 15th of nov! This area WILL be flooded with hunters from lower michigan! And if you neglect to resereve now you may have some difficulties finding lodging.
Best of luck safe driving no accidents on the way here guy's! Happy speeding, and watch out for leo's on i-75/m-33, and any other major thourofare, they do have laser up here, most can't believe that because it is so rural but ask jim and jerry540i as they found out about the ultralyte's inuse up here last yr. They both got shot at well over 1000ft!!
AlPiNe~ kinda funny having to peck all this out with one arm...

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Sounds like a plan to me TRC. Sorry I haven't been on much, the coil for my Wilson 1000 antenna was shot and it caused some damage to my CB radio. I have to drive 1 hour one way to bring my CB to the CB shop to get fixed. Guess this means I will go w/ a Wilson 5000 now. I can't wait to see how well this works. Nice to see that Deputy tested out the Cheetah C100 on here. Pretty impressive gadget. I will see if I can get a hold of some people that may want to come up to the event on the 15th. Jimbonzz, what are the chances that you may want to come? Sorry to hear Jerry you can't come:(. TSI, I am looking forward to meeting you and also seeing this Bel STi-R. Alpine and I need some closure on testing 35.5 against the STi-R w/ only 35.5 ka band turned on to see how well it can actually detect 35.5 only. We may just have found a way to get decent detection against 35.5 only which is deadly up here in MI. Hope you all have a great day.;):)

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
I'm there, I don't have much but I can bring my V1, 955 and the whistler pro 58 just for the hell of it. I don't know if I will get a jammer by then but I might. I am only 2 hours away so I will be driving into the event and back to my house. Why spend the money right??

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
If perhaps the weather goes sour we have plenty of cover. We are going to have a trailer w/heat, and a pop up roof. If the weather does go sour, the only concern would be snow. Rain isn't that high of a concern. Snow shouldn't affect our testing, if it does interfere with lidar, we might just postpone the lidar a day till sunday if need be. Although I don't think this will mostlikely occur. We should be able to get all of our stuff done on sat nov 15th. I might even look into asking a friend of mine if i can borrow a trailer with couch's in it etc. Instead of the trailer. It all depends what I can get to tow a trailer out there. I shouldn't have a problem finding a truck to tow a trailer out their as my father owns two trucks capable of towing the heated trailer. It has always been there when the weather has been bitter for testing, and even jim enjoyed having the heat :). Although this year I may even look into more, so we have more room.
As for getting PT on the satty good luck is all AlPiNe~ has to say trc. LOL i'm sure you'll have fun trying though.

I'll pitch in some $$s, for something, too. :)
So-far, my calendar is clear on that day - I still haven't made any reservations, yet, though. :o The wifey, being the low person on the totem-pole, has got the most variable schedule. :(

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
TSI, I can't wait to see how your Bel STi-R reacts to 35.5 radar w/ only 35.5 turned on the Bel STi-R. We need some good results against 35.5 for a change and that offers some hope.;)

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
You should have a designated data recorder too, and make awesome tables like GOL.
I really wish I could make it, but it would be too much driving with my Champaign-Chicago-Cleveland-Pittsburgh-Champaign road trip the next Thursday.

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Coordinates to the Meeting Location for GPS minded individuals.
Meeting Location:
N 44° 24.616
w 84° 6.953
Coordinates to Testing Site:
N 44° 25.085
w 84° 13.627
I hope these Coordinates Help those with Gps find both of these location's on the 15th of Nov.
For all those without GPS. You can search these coordinates on either google maps, or mapquest and print out directions to both places.
Hope to see you all there ;).

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
NMA it was TRC that was talking about the possiblity of getting an STI-R.
Although i'm sure TSI-WRX would take one nma if you had one you where willing to give him lol ;).
As they used to tell me in the Army NMA.
"Attention to detail nma."

Sorry TSI:o, too many things to remember when talking w/ Alpine. I see now, it's TRC who has the Bel STi-R. It really doesn't matter to me since I already have plenty of rd's. Thx for the correction though.

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Well then you can squib the maybe on blinder.
Hope to see you there langguy ;).
I will most likely have my Yaseu quad bander, 2meter, 6meter, 10meter, 70cm rig on as well, if anybody is ham licensed that is coming, the local repeater is 146.940mhz and can be heard roughly 75miles away from the meeting location. Although I am considering running simplex to not offend local ham enthusist's with tieing up the repeater. Although I can monitior two radio systems at once, so I will most likely be monitoring the West Branch Repeater at 146.940mhz, as well as let's say 145.2850

EDIT: never mind I got it
EDIT 2 : The only thing I hope is that maybe someone can hook us up with a spectre 4, a 9500ix and a gx-65. That would be nice if someone did that.

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
There are going to be 2 Spectre II's there...
The Spectre III is only slightly more sensitive than the II, and the IV, and IV+ aren't really much more sensitive than the III at all, the only major thing they did with that is they put an external horn on, and put in a mute switch, as all the external horn did obviously is make it false more.
The Spectre II, can still pick up most detectors at 1,000ft plus.
NMA is going to have a 9500i there?
Is it an ix? No, although the only "Major" difference i've seen in reading about the i vs ix is that the ix is more "automatic" and actually "takes" functions away from the user? Personally the 9500i I think gives the user more options on the lockout options. Where the ix simply locks things out "Automatically" and that feature can't even be turned off? If I had to choose if buying one, or the other? I'd buy a i not an ix. Although thats just me i wana have the most controll i can.
The Gx-65 who know's somebody might show up with one, I almost bought one myself about a week ago, although I changed my mind when i took a good look at it, and it looked so much like a Rx-65, and we all know how well that preform's on IO?? Just a tad of sarcasim there, needless to say i was not impressed with it at last years event.
We also all know that the 9500i/ix was initally built on the x-50's main board. The only thing escort radar did was add the gps chip board. WHich is why it is starteling that the 9500i is actually a weaker preformer than the x-50 since they simply used the x-50's chip board for the 9500i. If you open up your 9500i you will see x-50 on the chip board. Ironic how that works? Which leads me to beleive they did the same thing with the gx-65 since there are not really any major changes in bands or even in the receiver. Which tells me all they did is the same they did with the 9500i when it first came out. They simply gave the rx-65 bold new graphics and added a gps chip. Woopdee woo... Then they placed a 500 dollar price tag on it, and then I guess it then became the next best thing.
Would I enjoy to see one, ya, sure. If somebody has one bring it. Although, am i going to be upset if i don't? Not entirely. I personally beleive the STi Driver will walk all over it. Maybe if they would have made the GX-65 spectre immune it would mean more to me, the same goes for the 9500ix. The big talk was that they were going to make an immune escort when the 9500i was to come out, but yet they still have left that out of the ballpark? I am still asking questions to myself even as of why? As Escort own's beltronics, and beltronics was the first to come out with a immune to spectre unit? This much I don't understand? Also the only unit that esocrt offers is the 9500ci? Which has had numerous complaints of an overheating issue which causes gps failures.
I'm very curious why the new 9500ix they didn't choose to truely "Improve" the 9500i and make the 9500ix spectre IV+ immune? That would mean alot more to me and then maybe be worth paying the 500 dollars. Untill then, the x-50 works just great, and honestly at most times outpreforms the 9500i from what i've seen. Infact the first month the 9500i was out there where hundreds of them sent back on this forum alone. As people were just simply not impressed, especially when their x-50's where still walking all over a "New" realease? Hence I myself never joined the bandwagon of 9500i and most likely won't untill they decide to make the upgrade an "improvment" and worth what they charge.

If obama gets elected and passes that stimulus package, hopefully he does, i've been hoping to get out to NY, as I used to live there, and I honestly miss it. So maybe i'll be out your way in the future upstatedoc. Eventually, when i get funds again and am not unemployed I will most likely be taking a trip out that way. Too bad you can't make it, vaughn is flying in from Cali with the Stalker DSR 2x. Maybe someday i'll get the chance and link up with ya, as I said I hope I get the chance to come out to NY again I miss upstate NY. Syracuse/watertown area.;)
Used to live in Watertown Ny.
By the way doctor House is hillarious! Also the videotography/editing on that show rocks!

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
never trust the 14 day forcast. When we get to the 3 day forcast, then I'll have more faith. :)
-
Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Ya, i've found around here they are typically off on that 14 day forcast by about 3 days. Typically.
So i'm betting it will be sunny then good :).
If it does flurry which it normally doesn't here untill a week after opening day of deer season, we have the trailer W/heat. Not a big worry. Also we have the pushup overhead cover. So not a huge concern.;)

Ok, I plan on coming to the event unless my small car quits on me. I do feel bad my X50 will not be at the event because it has been sent back to Escort for yet another tuneup since the last one wasn't done correctly. At least we will have Alpine's X50 to cover for mine not being there.:( We are looking forward to seeing as many people there as possible.:D

Re: AlPiNe Up NOrth InVaTaTiOnal 08' Scheduled for Nov 15th 2008
Yes, my x-50 will be there, i'm running the STi Driver this week just to make sure that mine will be in working condition for the event ;).
Can't wait to see TRC, and GTO04 there.
And can't wait to see GTO's scanners and his V1 1.7 with that nice rear laser sensor. :D
