Man you are going to get mixed answers here as both detectors are very very good. Personally I like the RX65. I believe it performs a little better over hill and around corners. The X50 is better at laser performance as the RX65 shouldn't even have laser detection because it sucks so bad at it. I like the display better on the 65...it is brighter and more visible in the sun. Also, some people like the voice alert on the 65. Something the X50 doesn't have. And the RX-65 is more compact and not as long as the X50
Either way you go you will be happy. Like I said before they are both great detectors and they both perform about the same.
agreed. depends on what your main threats are. if its laser, go with x50, radar, depending on which frequency, rx-65. they both are killer on radar. i have owned the x50 and loved it! they both a very very close on radar detection to one another but the x50 wins for laser performance hands down. if it were me, id personally go wtih x50.Originally Posted by aaseavey
This sucks !!......there is so much data in this forum as well as others about every kind of detector it's total information overload...... I have been researching this site for about 3 months now and still not sure what to buy between these 2.
I read a lot about random problems with the RX65 compared to the x50. Is this true ??
only thing i can think of is a laser pickup issuse with the rx65. if it were me, id go with the x50, or save $50 more and get a V1. i have had my V1 about 2-3 months and absolutly love it! loved my x50 also though.
The issues you are referring to on the 65 are SERVICE REQUIRED messeges across the display and it locks up. The only way to fix this is to send it to BEL and have it repaired. Now if you buy it off ebay BEL will not warrenty any of this but if you buy from ROY are BEL direct they will for 1 year.Originally Posted by cdilln
Now the good news is the new generation BELS are getting much better and the quality seems to be going up. A lot less service required messages on the M4 6.1 version.
Listen...before I bought my V1, I was in the same situation...RX-65 or X50. After lots and lots of review I went with the RX65. But it is personnel preference. You won't be disappointed either way. So just buy one and you will be happy. Piece of advice...once you do buy one don't keep saying to yourself "I should have got the other one"...."I wonder if the other one performs better." If you do this you will find yourself saving money to buy the other one just to find that they are both about the same.
Ennee Mennee Minnii Mow......
well if your looking at $300 bucks then its a user draw as far as preference between the rx65 and X50, rx65 seems to edge out on Ka band performance but realisticly your splitting hairs between the two. The Escort does have the advantage as far as Laser alert, but even if you have a V1, relying on a laser alert ahead of time is a big gamble. InstantOn radar is bad enough to deal with, laser is even more of a slim chance of picking up scatter.
Now if you talking about spending $225 bucks you can get the Beltronics 995, and it seems much less tempermental as far as the service required issue. And performance wise it would be a step up from your Whistler and give stiff competition to its big brother rx65 for the money its a great choice.

This is awesome !!! Thanks to Y'all for the info.
the x50 is quieter in the city yes. but its all comparative. if you know how to program your unit with certain features, you can make any unit fairly quiet. for example, my V1 was just as quiet in the city as my x50...that is, after i learned how to program it and use the helpful features such as the K band automute. all comes down to features becuase they are all within eachother on performace, except laser. then the v1 stands out, then the x50, the rx65. (top 3 ranking)
