Default Getting my 12v to turn off with the car. . .

I know that this is possible and I'm hoping that you guys can help me out.

I have my stuff tapped into the 12v connection(ciggy lighters) except its hardwired behind. I am wondering how I can get the ciggy lighters to go off w/ the car. I hate having to worry about unplugging stuff and turning it off.

I have a 2002 alero and do have a little bit of knowledge on the electronics and won't mind having to do some wiring if I need to.

You could just wire them to something switched with the key... radio for example.

I had a feeling that suggestion was gonna come up . . I really didn't want to do that. . . mainly because I don't know what wire is the hot wire for the radio.

Is there actually any way that I can get ALL the cigarette lighters/accessory lights to go off with my key.

Of course... just wire them through the key or another switched circuit. How about the daytime running lights or some other circuit.

    Check www.the12volt.com

Do you have an aftermarket radio? If not, what's the make/model/year of your vehicle?

I would wire it through the ignition switch. If you can't find an electrical schematic for your car then take off the plastic around the steering column and start probing the leads with a volt-ohm-meter until you find the one that gets hot when the key is turned to the "ON" position.

i would be careful tapping into an unknown circuit whether it is switched or not. you could cause other problems by overloading it. i would simply check your fuse box for a switched lead and run from there. buy yourself a multi unit receptacle and hardwire directly to the fuse box.

with my setup I fuse tapped into the fuse into the back of the radio and used the ground for the radio also, and the V1 doesnt durn itself off when i turn the car off, but its really not a hassle to turn it off after a few days of doing so.

    Compu . . stock radio.

    2002 alero, as I said

    Thanks for your help.

I am not going to just start ripping into wires. . I'm not that dumb. I'm going to find more than 1 source that confirms something is a hot wire and its 12 volts. I am thinking about going into my radio - but I don't know which one the hot wire is. The ground I can leave on the ciggy's right??
