Default Second Detector on the Rear Windshield

My friend let me borrow his whistler. I had it running on my rear windshield with my passport on the front. It did pick up cops coming from behind before my passport did. Do you think it will interfere at all and that it's worth it to have a second detector on your rear windshield to get better range of the rear?

it generally will cause interference and problems. From what I hear you shouldn't run two at the same time. I know there has been alot of posts on here about running 2 detectors at the same time. I couldnt find them in search though. look around i'm sure you will find more detailed answers.

Well I know you shouldn't run two right next to each other on the same windshield. But if one is on each window, I don't see what the problem is. I didn't notice any hinder in performance.

yea maybe you're right if they are that far apart. didn't think about that. if they both seem to be working for you then I guess they don't cause a problem.

it can vary somewhat. if they're around 5-6' apart facing away, they will "probably" be okay.
my antennas are about 6' apart inside my cab and there is no interference or performance issues, but i wouldn't take that as applying to other detectors or mounting locations.

i would consider doing some testing if possible. find some stationary sources for each band and do some runs with each one on alone as a base and then both on to make sure there isn't any issue in performance.

besides the obvious falses another detector can give one next to it, sometimes it may not make a sound, but internally it's "dealing" with the interference from the other one, so alerts can be diminished from slightly to greatly.

the biggest thing is to first make sure your passport is still performing as it has if you add another detector.

as for the extended rear protection, that's a matter of personal preference for the most part.
if you never get shot from behind it may not be as necessary to have it.

some people don't care about adding extra rear range and some do.

for me personally i like being able to not only pick up weak signals to the rear, but judge sources by the alert switching from the front to the rear and vice versa.

i've had several occasions where i will pick up alerts a mile or two away approaching from the rear. i can tell by the strength if they are gaining or i'm pulling away so i can speed check accordingly.

either way if you like the second unit in the back go for it, but test it out first just to make sure it won't interfere.
