I hate them with a passion and one of my roommates has one and the other has a radioshack he got on clearence for 15 bucks.... my old one that is not allowed to be talked about was triggered by these things everytime i was parking and now my x50 rev 6.1 does the same its so annoying....not to mention when you ride in their cars all you hear is beeps past every damn store

I wouldn't say the "look cool" because alot of detectors are starting to look better and better. . .

I would say something along the lines of - peers. People talk to people and they tell them cobra is a good brand. People believe them right and left and than buy theres. I still want to do a test of my own for fun w/ my family's 3 detectors.

    Cobra 9110 - Cobra XRS something - V1 =D

    Guess which one is mine

Don't you just love it when you see the nice cars with the crap detectors on the windshield. Makes me look at my V1 and go "Ahhhhhhhhh"

ESPECIALLY when I see them mounted behind wiper blades! That just really gets me!

In my opinion, I love seeing fast car with sh**y detectors hanging from the windshield. 9 times out of 10, they will make a good rabbit because they have bought into the BS about RMR's jamming police radar so they will speed all the way until the LEO is pulling out to catch them giving more intelligent RD users plenty of time to slow down and pull into traffic.
If everyone used V1's Escorts, and Bel's there would be no stupid people to follow...

Exactly! They're the ones running the front with the false sense of security that they will have enough time to slow down on an alert. That combined with one of the top 3's extra padding distance make it no sweat to slow down in time. I guess it's a love hate relationship; they're always setting off false alerts but when they're around it's almost an extra means of protection.

And about them driving nice cars, I think my car is nice, and that's all that matters. It's not a sports car but then again I don't get the constant hits that I get when driving around in a corvette. I believe there was a survey done showing that cars that stand out (sports cars, yellow, bright blue etc.) get singled out more often. I should find that...

If they chose to go out and spend tons of money on a fast car, I don't feel sorry for them if they get caught. If they can afford the insurance, they can afford the ticket. I'm sure they spent more than an hour researching their car purchase. With speeding tickets + the possible points approaching the cost of some people's insurance payments, why wouldn't you give the same amount of time to researching the possibility of saving some more money?

I usually take my RD off the dash when I take my cars to a car show. No sense making it hot in the sun, and possibly a target for theft.

So I sold my Bel e795 a week ago on craigslist when I bought my STi. I almost cracked up when the guy pulled up in a 350z. We talked for a while, he said he did a lot of research and thought it was an awesome unit. I tried to explain it's ok for the price but def not one of the best. He wanted to argue against me that it was great and he needed it cause he just got a huge ticket in D.C. that he actually spent a couple hours in jail for. I thought of this thread when I was talking with him... I forgot to come post about it though.

Last week while getting an oil change on my 540i, saw a brand new BMW 545 (pearl white, beige interior--very nice) with (you guessed it) a nice shiny Cobra stuck to the windshield. I don't get it--you spend serious coin on a serious car and then cheap out and spend 60 bucks on a crappy detector. Conclusion--good taste in cars doesn't translate into good taste in detectors.

haha sometimes people just have no clue, my mom has a new 5 series and she insisted on getting a $35 cobra from a freaking infomercial when i tried to convince her it was a terrible idea. now its sitting in the kitchen somewhere collecting dust.. escort sent her this thing saying they would credit her 50 bucks on an x50 if she sent it to them in exchange. of course she didnt, because she drives like a granny anyway.
