Default RD to work on chinese highways

Hi guys, my first post here.
first i really want to say this forum is just a great place for me to learn RD-related topics.

If I can find you guys any earlier I would not have bought the "infamous" Cobra RD off ebay, sigh.... Its the newest 9730 if it matters

now comes my question, I am actually planning to take this 9730 to China and use it there. While over here in north america highways are full of police patrols with radar guns and stuff, on chinese highways there are only stationary constant-on radar guns placed equally apart along the way. rarely highways patrols will be present (hope my description doesnt confuse you too much) So my question is while this Cobra is said to be not capable of working well here compared to other brands, does anyone have a clue as to how well it will work against those automatic radar guns? And anyone know what kind of bands do those radar guns normally operate on?

If this Cobra coudnt even work well for this case, I might have to consider buy a better one before leaving.

    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks alot
    allen

I would just say the Cobra isn't going to do any well to you, it will help you finding Gas stations. You might want to try with a cheap whistler

thanks for the quick replies. legal or not, i think it might be a grey area as there has been no such laws mentioning the use of such devices to my knowledge. Better than that, I may be the first person in town to carry a RD 8) pretty cool i guess

as to selling the cobra and buying a better one, i would really do it if it can be done any easier since im from toronto and RDs are illegal here and extremely expensive even I can get a source for stuff like a STI.

so does anyone know if cobra can really be up to the task for those fixed radar guns? or it is "useless" for whatever radar detection purposes?

    Thanks again

Are you talking about the MultaNova, and various (low power)photo radars? I would have to say, if they had any sense they probably set them all to low-power (if their units allow), and they are probably rather hard to detect, and your Cobra wont do jack against them... that is assuming I am correct in what devices they use for speed enforcement that you are talking about.

I have never been to China so I dont know what they use over there, but it really sounds like some sort of low-power photo-radar system if they just leave them there, and personally I would have to say... even if they arent low powered or anything fancy I would ditch the Cobra anyways and get a better RD.

    thanks,
but i really dont know what type of radar guns they use. the only thing i know is many times large number of the radar guns are not even operating, they are there just to deter people from speeding. so with a radar detector you can tell which one is working or not.

looks like i should really be starting selling the cobra, though i have never used it.
