Default age old question... and i did search... A LOT

deciding between a rx65 and the x50... i live in south florida below tampa. had a bel v995 and sold it to upgrade. it was pretty nice i feel these will perform better. i know about no x here.. so what would be the better choice?? a freind of mine is a dealer for both brands so i can get either one.. help me choose ... please??

btw i will be adding a blinder m-20 to the vehicle at a later date .. most likely .. or i should say hopefully. thanks

also is it really true that the 2 of these are the same unit just different features? according to bel when i called them they told me they were the same unit in different housings?? not sure i believe this??

They claim they are the same exact thing, but testing has proven differently.

If you look at the radar tests, RX65 is a top preformer on 2 of the 3 KA frequencies. However, a lot of people on this board dont like the RX65 for the sole purpose of the tones. They are pretty annoying. RX65 does have little laser preformance as well. If you are being shot, sometimes it will not alert.

Laser is used a lot down there isnt it or are they more of a KA type of state?

from all the searching i did it seems that we are primarily ka and laser based here... i have never seen a real x threat since ive been here.

so is the rx65 really that bad when it comes to laser?? i saw the review and did read it but wow i would have thought a higher end model like this would have done better than that.... all the other reviews i have read sais they were about the same on everything except maybe ka.. i read everything on roy's site and all the others i could find...

I suggest you go with the RX65 with the dominance of the KA band detection, and point the RX65 down a little bit so it detects the laser on every shot.

I would also recommend lasershield and VEIL if you see a lot of laser. You will have a chance against it, with a good detection of the rx65 you will be set.

The new revision of the RX65 may help it's laser detection, there's been some muttering on the board about that. The combination of the RX65 and some kind of jammer (like the M20) is a really good idea because you get the RX65's excellent radar performance and the jammer covers it's weaknesses on laser.

    IMHO of course.

am i correct on saying once you have been hit for the radar to pick up laser its pretty much to late anyway?? this is why i was going to do the blinder as well..?? correct me if im wrong? i didnt think the radar would pick up much from laser unless they were hitting maybe the car right next to you or something?? if this is the case id prob go rx65 to get better radar performance. otherwise im leaning toward the x50..?? thanks

If you are the target with laser and you have no kind of countermeasure by the time your detector has alerted you're toast anyway most of the time. Catching scatter from other targeted motorists does happen but not regularly enough to be considered any kind of defence.

There's a review of the various detectors laser performance here :-

You can use passive countermeasures like Veil and Lasershield to try to gain a few seconds grace or you can go the jamming route to increase your protection.
