    Default multanova

tested a single direction multanova just the other day in a 60mph zone doing 60mph. Bel Sti driver in my jacket pocket on the bike. got dead level with the camera then got the k-band allert. coming the other way accross 6 lanes of traffic and got the first k-band allert at 600 yards. not cool
next time i'll do the car and i'll see if i can get a better warning and range

I would think that in your jacket pocket it might be difficult for the antenna to be aimed down the road?

Maybe he's using one of those "reflectors" like what came on the old Bel 946 cordless... or maybe he likes to ride "flat"...

First, if its a Multanova it should be a Ka Band alert unless its an old Multanova-5F but they don't even make these anymore.

And second, correct alignment of the radarhorn of the detector greatly affects the performance like jimbonzzz says, espeically against a weak signal emitting multanova. Try tapping it to the tank or under the shield for testing purposes, making sure the detector is not only horizontal but also pointing straight front.

If they have the power down on that multanova to its minimum setting 0,2mW, the you will have a hard time detecting it in advance anyway since the Sti has only Suiperwide Ka band, it does not have a narrow Ka band setting for 34.3+/-100MHz which is the most effective configuration agaisnt a multanova.

Glad you answered this one Carlos, didn't think any of the newer Multinova's used K band,

There is a new Multanova radar who uses the K band 24 ghz: The Mulltaradar C.

Detection is very poor on it.

In Holland we use the detectors vertical ( l ) instead of horizontal (-)

    Look at these foto's:

Better detection on both Multanova (Ka band) and Gatso (K band).

Harold, can the MultaRadar C be used as fixed radar (gauntry or cabin-box)? and not just a tripod? I believe he was talking about a fixed radar installation since he said sigle direction multanova.
By the way, we don't have these here in Spain yet, how is detection range compared to the normal Multanova-6F?

We do this as well but with the Bel966, we find that multanova detection is better with the radarhorn in vertical than in horizontal as well, at least in "most" cases.
However we also found that in the case of the BEl975R, its the other way around, detection is seems better for most people with it in horizontal. This may be the reason why they tend to install it horizontal in US, because there is no Bel966 in US. I believe it has to do with the polarization of the antenas, which is different form the 996 vs 975. Have you found differences with the two antenas?
Maybe jimbonzzz can shed some light in to this.
