Does anybody knows the differences between the K and KA band antenas on radar units? I think that most of the time the KA one is smaller but is there anoher way to know ?

Does anybody knows the differences between the K and KA band antenas on radar units? I think that most of the time the KA one is smaller but is there anoher way to know ?
If it is octagon shaped it is most likely K band, or X band K55 it has a black and white housing.
The primary difference is still in the antenna size. The size difference is noticeable and you can tell with experience.

Yeah most, if not all of the Kustom antenas are octagon shaped.
SpeedFreak, if you haven't already, go to ebay and look up radars to see what a lot of the older radars look like. Also, go to the manufacturer websites to see what the new radars look like.
Also, if you do go to ebay, type in Kustom, MPH, Decatur, or Stalker individually. If you type in radar, you will get 1000's of everything that remotely deals with radar in general. Such as toys, money (radar notes), navigational radar, detectors, etc. I say this not knowing how familiar you are with ebay.

I got a big collection of radar/lidar units pictures taken from ebay/other places. And i can identify them really well but the problem is that i seen the kustom eagle plus in some cruisers lately and it had the small antena . From what i seen it looks like theres two models of antenas and the one they got is the smallest , so i bet that its the KA one. I want to know what to expect for the next speed trap :wink:
The Golden Eagle Ka radars that I've seen all had small circular antennas. I even saw one that had cammo covering on the antenna except for the lens.Originally Posted by SpeedFreak

Here's a few antennas...
Top Row = MPH X-Band
Middle Row = MPH K-Band, Kustom K-Band, Decatur K-Band
Bottom = Kustom Ka-Band, MPH Ka-Band
Its indentical to the one in the pic so that confirms what i was thinkin of ... Ka ... Thanks

here in nz the cop cars have one like the Decatur shown but its ka 34.7..stalker i believe.. one on the front dash and one on back of the cop car
Here's another MPH K-band antenna, on the left in this pic. This one is shaped like Jim's X band antenna but is shorter like the MPH K-band he has in his pic.
