Default POLL DO YOU HIDE YOUR RADAR DETECTOR WHEN NOT IN USE?

Hey i was just wondering who hides there detector please share your experiences. I know some people hide it so the sun and the temperature inside the car wont get hot. I have a 8500 X50 and i hide it from both thieves and the sun. Probably wont in winter. I know the RX65 seems to be greatly effected with SELF CAL and heat from sun issues. If you spend that much money you shouldnt have to worry about the sun... I have heard from a lot of forum reading.

I don't hide mine very often, unless it's a shady part of town or I'm going into an apartment complex/mall/etc. If I do hide it there's a large sunglass pocket that my v1 slides into, in fact I have the pwr cable routed so it comes out of this pocket. So if I do hide it all I do is slide it out of the mount & into the headliner compartment.

My V1 is permanently hidden from thieves (and protected from the sun as well) inside a visor pouch. So I don't have to take it down under normal circumstances.

But when I use the X50, it comes down when I park and stashed away from prying eyes and the burning sun (hmmm. I wonder if SPF 45 Coppertone smeared all over a detector will help with sun-related issues)
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Depends on the situation, in my personal drive to work Caprice it is visor mounted and does not stick out much, kind of resembles a garage door opener, since driving with a visor mounted unit since '85 I have never had a LEO inquire about it if pulled over for something else, I don't think they see it.
Always stays there unless switching to family Expedition which is windshield mounted at dash level, parked in garage at night time, I take that one off if out of town over night or cover it for long sun encounters.
Work Peterbuilt is dash mounted with a rag over it.

I always take it out... don't want any police seeing it either

At home I take it in the house too.

I take mine down when I'm parking anywhere that isnt home. Usually I just take the detector down and leave the mount up, and take the V1 with me, and tuck the phone cord away out of sight. I would really hate some one stealing it and not knowing what it was worth and end up selling it for $20 worth of meth. At home I leave it up unless it is a really hot day. With my previous detectors ie Cobra, it would stay up all the time, no matter what I was pretty sure that if anyone wanted on that bad they would have gone to walmart and got one themselves. Cobras dont really instill that impulse theif, but a higher end RD could catch the eye of not so nice people, and I might have to get a new window and a new RD.

P.S. Is there anything V1 or belscort can do about a stolen RD?

I always put mine under the seat, or in the center console...Even if I'm just running in somewhere for a minute..better safe than sorry, plus I don't want one of those self-cal messages that I have read about

VR will not repair RD's reported as stolen, nor will they repair one with a missing or altered serial number. Ditto for Cincinnati Microwave, at least when I had my original Escort.

So if someone steals your RD, report it to the manufacturer.

I work in a bad neighborhood, so V1 goes into the office with me.
