From the sounds of it, Ka detectors are the best for california. I want to get one because I drive from Nor Cal (truckee) to So Cal (LA) alot. My family combined have gotten a bunch of speeding tickets driving that road.

What would be the best bet to keep me safe? From the sounds of it X50. Is there a cheaper alternative?

    Thanks

P.S. I just want to make sure that Radar Detectors are legal in California.

"Radar detectors are banned in all vehicles in Virginia and the District of Columbia and in big trucks in New York and Illinois. However, they are allowed in noncommercial vehicles in the other 49 states besides Virginia. State legislatures for the most part have been unwilling to ban detectors. " An old source, but probably still holds.

Ok, thats not something you want to say if you are trying to convince someone to buy x50. You just said plenty of people drop the x50 and go v1, but not too many people drop the v1 for the x50.

You just basically said the v1 is a better detector... I'm confused.

no I was merely stating that there are alot of people switching to the V1 because they think its a better detector, I NEVER said that the V1 was superior to the X50 in any way

and in the end I DID finally convince him to get the X50

    haha, good job!

i'm starting my month trial of the v1 today.

first impression: much more mountable than the x50.

    better k band detection.

we'll see how it does on ka!

I do agree that the mount for the V1 is by FAR superior to the Escort ones.....thats just obvious

    Bull!!!

If you want good KA range get a BEL RX65!!! It spanks both the Escort and V1

V1 is only good for stalker KA-band frequency as well as all of K and X

CHP might be swutching to the deadly talon guns

    Spoiler: show

    Radar Detectors-V1 & BEL v995
    Laser Jammer-Laser Interceptor Quad
    GPS Camera Locator-Cheetah C100
    GPS Nav-Garmin nuvi w/Trapster
    CB Radio-Galaxy DX-949 w/Wilson 500
    Scanner-RS Pro-96

Air just said that the X50 would be better than the V1 in the current state, he never mentioned Bel
