Live in VA looking for good RD

I have been reading a little bit around the forums and see the Escort Passport 8500 X50 to be a popular choice. My main concern is of course getting a ticket just for having the detector. Are there any mods you can do that would keep the unit out of the front window? Setting up an sensor in the grill or maybe on top that would look inconspicuous ie. XM antenna.

well, ill say this, if you want an X50 thats cool, just keep it behind your tint strip to keep it hidden

BUT

I do suggest you get a Beltronics STi, its a total Stealth detector, so that the cops cant find you with their Radar Detector Detectors (RDDs) last I know they do NOT use Spectres in VA, but you never know, they might come, but for the time being I think theyve got all VG-2s and the X50 IS VG-2 immune :wink: (I believe)

VSP does not have Spectres. However there is speculation that a small Town Police department in Southern VA off of I-85 not far from NC might have Spectre, but this hasn't been confirmed yet. Hopefully I will find out for sure soon if the have Spectres or not. The name of the small town is La Crosse, VA. see: http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...=8420&start=45

Any of the top end detectors: X50, RX65, V1, or STi should work fine for you.

Well the tint strip would be a good idea but unfortunately I had my window replaced not too long ago so the tint strip is no more. I looked at the STi which was pretty cool but the price tag is pretty rough. That's why I was wondering if there were any mods out there for the x50. An extra 150 bucks for a magnesium case doesn't seem worth while for the STi.

I know Loudoun county uses VG-2's. Likewise haven't seen or heard anything confirmed about Spectre's in VA. StealthJamal, should you hear something about Spectre's in VA.....keep us posted.

I might as well live in VA and I use a X50. I was caught in LA Crosse, Va and he said that his radar picked me up. I also saw a car near me that had a cheap detector in it. Hopefully we will find out what they have, its possible that they have a Spectre since the cheif made about a half of million dollars in 1 year off of tickets. But I think that the X50 will be good in VA, I use it all the time. Just be careful when using it.
