Maybe the best is to put it on a website like video.google.com or youtube.com and then no worries about the format? But the quality isn't the best.
I would think most people would have ability to play quicktime by now.
I would say either AVI, QuickTime, Mpg, or Wmv. Most of the forum users will be Windows users and any Windows machine can play these formats, Although I believe you have to install Quicktime or a plugin to media player in order to play .mov files. Anyways the best way is to load it up to Google Video or You Tube like SmaartAasSaabr said. That would solve your format issue cause most people have flash installed into their browsers. Can't wait to see them....
well .AVI can be encoded with ALOT of diferent PLUG-IN so .avi cant be read be everyone .wmv is a windows format witch everyone should be able to see, also MPG requies no plug-in so that could be used too, but file size are big especialy with MPEG-2 (DVD)
avi is technically a container - which allows many different formats.
I hate *.mov and quicktime files - mainly because I hate it - Its stupid.
Uhh - I prefer avi xvids but most of you don't have xvid or divx codec so wmv is by far the easiest and most compatible.

AVI files with Divx or Xvid encoding and Mpegs I like for downloadables. But I have to say that my preference for looking at internet videos is youtube of google video, its much faster because its on a good fast host, plus they use flash movies, which begin playing faster etc....
Those are all containers. The codec is what you are looking for, not the container.Originally Posted by Orbital75
Option 1: Something like youtube.com to make it easy.
Option 2: Make a video file. I recommend h264 as your choice of codec since it is the best BY FAR out there. If not the next best thing is xvid, then the next best thing after that is divx. If you want to do this PM me and I'll explain how to encode your video over to the format you want.
Actually mpg can and cannot be a container - just depends which mpeg your talking about.
But I hate the video's on youtube - the quality is horrific - good enough to watch - but thats really it. If youd on't have a server than thats great.
But I am more than happy to host videos for people if they need it.
