Hell ride...or...My daily drive.

Hi all, I just joined the forum & thought Id get off to a raging rant right away!

Enjoy.

On my way to work - almost 70 miles each way - passing through a few small towns, A total hell ride a from Fredonia, AZ two lane highway at PSL 65 through Hurricane, UT then 10 miles on small hwy at PSL 60 and finally the interstate for 10 more miles into ST George, UT at PSL 75 then 65 entering ST George.

Theres a spot in Hurricane that sets off my old Whistlers on K-band & is the perfect spot for Johnny law to trap people. I think about 2-3 sources of junk signals. Well see how it sets off the RX65 in auto mode since I just got it today!

For about 35 miles from Fredonia to Hurricane I have to contend with - AZ Hwy patrol, UT Hwy patrol, BIA Police patrol, The infamous Colorado City cops, & Hurricane city police - all overlapping each other and equipped with K & KA band instant on guns!

Add to that, plenty of hills (Id say at least 10 or so blind rises) & a few blind turns - perfect for an ambush! Oh, also...almost no traffic. So basically Ive got no pace cars to follow & set off radar alerts early for me & not enough vehicles on the road to catch early signals.

Am I whining? Sorry.


Using the RX65 on the way home today, I did notice that it falsed less than my Whistler 1793 & 1788 cordless. I Liked my 1793 but its speaker went tits up a while ago, so I got the 1788, but for my extreme use, I didnt think the range was up to par & the speaker wasnt loud enough to be heard over music at even moderate volumes, so its on its way out. Im really hoping the Bel will be the ticket. I was a bit po'd about the RX65s threat mode not showing multiple threats on the same band (very usefull, I think. But after reading reviews, decided on Bel for its selectivity & limited falsing.

In the past two years Ive been nailed twice by the cops during my commute. The first time was before I got the detector. That made me buy the Whistler 1793. The second time was almost a year ago just after the fuzz got thier new instant on guns. I got tagged on the two lane highway in the dark with him coming toward me & BAM! all of a sudden my detector goes ape sh*t - as a set of headlights comes closer & at about 100 feet blasts me. I immediately slammed on the brakes, but he had me. He asked if I had a detector because he saw my speed decrease drastically the second he pulled the trigger...80 in a 65 zone. He was pretty nice though & only wrote me for 5 over the PSL.

Im pretty good at reading conditions,traffic & such, but this stretch of road is brutal & ripe for traps.

Sounds like you need a X50 or V1 for multi-threats.

Sounds like a pain to drive. Gotta watch it though, no RD will save you from instant on unless you have a rabbit infront of you and he gets nailed with it first. Hope you like your new RD. The cordless units are always a little worse on performance than corded and seem to be softer volume.

You know, I compared the V1, Bel & escort.

The Bel & escort were neck & neck & I decided to go with the Bel & didnt know about the difference in threat mode until just the other day - after Id placed my order.

The Valentine had many great qualities, but I decided against it in the end because of false alert being higher than the other two. I didnt want to have to wade through a sea of false alerts & price being almost double what I got my RX65 for that made up my mind for me.

As far as range goes, they are all awesome. & too close to call, so thats a draw. The bell just falls short in the multiple threat arena. I cant believe the reviews never mentioned this. Its not a deal breaker or anything, but it can make a difference!

Radar roy, Radar test.com & others should have mentioned this in thier reviews, especially when noting the differences between the Bel & Escort. I cant believe not a single review caught that.

Looks like lidar is not a concern here. That's bad. Investing in a jammer would have done the trick.

Besides that one falsing spot where the LEO hides, how many other falsing areas are there on this commute? If just a few, then I'd go with the V1 for it's range, arrows, bogey counter. If arrows aren't important, then I'd say the X50 threat display is a tad better. If the RX65 is new enough, invoke their return policy. Since they are the same company now, maybe they'll do it if you are buying the X50.

However, you still need a rabbit to save you. Especially if they are going to ambush at very short range. That's your achilles heel and none of even the best are going to save you from that.

Thats pretty much it.

The instant on threat. The only real multiple threat area is just the one place. Its the instant on with the hills & turns thats the real threat.

Ive only gotten one laser alert since Ive had an RD & I think it was a false alert from the sun.

I got tired of the false alerts from both of my whistlers (although the cordless 1788 falsed less - maybe less range?) Each time I got a false, Id slow down. It gets old. After hearing from many sources about the V1, I decided to go escort or bel.

If I have to slow down that much, I may as well go the speed limit! LOL.
