Detector Brands.

I respect and do not criticize any particular brand of RD. I owned the original Escort and Passport from Cincinnati Microwave- back in the days- and I have owned several (now obsolete) models of Bel. My last few and current RD is the Valentine1 with/pop. Its just a preference. We all buy our models according to our likes, needs, and preferences. I dont know that much about RD's so I rely on word of mouth and of course the RD reviews I read. I am sure all brands do the job you expect and thats why we have several companies competing for our bucks. No brand is perfect and some are quite costly- ok ok - over priced- but in the end if you are comfortable with your brand then more power to you and happy motoring. I would like to see more (other than every 5 yrs) RD comparison tests.

I too have no particular affinity for any specific brand of radar detection device. As is well proven, several brands are adequate.

I DO however have a problem with the PERSONALITY that rabidly defends their said device as if it were some sort of god. And where ever I witness this lunacy manifest itself, I will ridicule it OPENLY. Be they "Velievers", BEL nuts or Escort kooks.

I would say Cobra fanatics but how in the hell could anyone defend a device to their intellectual death that only cost $49?

I make it a point to criticize all detectors (or at least the ones that are worth criticizing)! :mrgreen:
Naturally I find more faults in some models than others...

Well if I buy a brand and I am not satisfied with it, I guess I am the one to blame for not doing my research carefully enough. I cant blame the brand. It was me who made the decision. I currently own the V1 w/ pop and so far I am very happy with the unit. Havent had it long and live in rural Arizona but so far no falsing of any kind. Will keep you posted.

erm, really, all the detectors you can buy today are pretty good. Maybe not good enough depending on your driving style (as in speed above limit). For me I need a very good one...

There is only one brand of "radar protection" that needs to be avoided and is a free target for harsh criticism, and that's RMR.

Ok OK - waves the white flag of surrender. Years ago i bought a RMR jammer (passive) the Phazer or Phazer II and it did NOTHING. I took it apart and inside were a couple of electronics and a silver plastic antenna. I think the box was just to hold the BS and not the electronics.

Hey, you can't go wrong buying a V1, but similarly you won't kick yourself if you ended up with an 8500.

I have had different Uniden 6000 series, Whistlers 1490/1495/1595 etc, Bel 820/855/815R/915R/945i/946i/970/975R/980/990/ (also europen 966R) Cobra's 9860/9700, never owned V1 but I have used it. And I still have some of those oldies ;c)

According to those, I have to say that detectors have developed enermously during the time (from 1995) and price tag correlates to the performance.

At the moment I have Cobra XRS9700 and here I have to say that it's performing quite good although cheap price.

Nevertheless, as I said, price correlates to performance, so top models of Bel, Cobra, Escort and Valentine gives best value for the money.
