I also think the V1 is the most "stylish" detector on the market. The escort, bel, sti, whatever, all look the same and the V1 looks sweet in every Ferrari I've seen one in
Also, as far as bulkiness, the old V1 was pretty fat indeed, but the new ones are rediculously light . The bulkiness is about the same, but the light weight of the V1 makes it vastly superior IMO when you're carving up the corners and nailing the throttle. Also, the V1 mounts much more nicely than any other detector I've seen. My Bel 995 has fallen off my windshield too many times for my liking.

Well detector variance can play a role here JAZZY. His RX65 just may be better than the V1 on Ka while others may not be. I have seen some videos lately with freakish range on Ka from the X50 and the RX65. So it is possible.I guess you didn't see the latest testing.

Simple answer to that is the beauty of design, with the exact examples easy enough to compare with mobile phones, there are alot of mobile phones out there that are skinnier than others but feel bulky in your hand due to the design etc. Same can be said for any portable device, just a few millimeters of difference in either lenght width or thickness can make one unit "look" and "feel" inferior to another.
Take the Motorola Razer V3 for instance, hugely popular phone due to it once being the thinnest on the market, but to accommodate for that, it was also one of the widest and felt rediculous to hold in your hand, although it was no more in length than any other on the market.
A Volvo car, the ugliest box on the road, yet its variably no larger than others in its category.
There are so many examples, its endless.

And have you actually held a RAZR? Personally I think the width is great, much more comfortable in the hand and it makes my hand feel less cramped like most phones do.

IMO, there is no radar detector that I would describe as aesthetically pleasing. All of the bels look like little fat lumps of plastic. The escorts have a very odd long look about them. I don't know how to describe it, but it irks me.
The v1, though, to me, looks purpose-built. It's not really aesthetically pleasing in and of itself, but the big rear antenna, the volume knob, and the tilt toward the driver make it look how a radar detector, in my mind, should look. The others just look like some funky kids toys, until you pick them up and feel their weight.
The old v1 was more bulky looking, but it too had that same purpose-built, form follows function look to it.
Based on looks alone, my vote goes to the V1. But to buy a rd based on looks is silly, that's why I bought my V995.
Anyways- back on TOPIC,
I think I would have to try out the BEL STI. I have heard many great things about it.
